A woman says she plans to intentionally block her neighbor’s car after an unpleasant incident involving their shared driveway
She claims this “isn’t the first time” she’s had issues with the neighbor
The woman detailed her story on a popular community forum — where people said she is actually the one who is being “petty” and “childish”
A woman is being called “petty” and “childish” after she says she plans to intentionally trap her neighbor’s car in their shared driveway for a day.
The woman detailed her situation on the “Am I Being Unreasonable?” forum on the U.K.-based community site Mumsnet, a place where women can go to seek advice and input from other women. In her post, the woman said she lives on a shared driveway with three homes, with her home situated in the middle.
“Yesterday, we had a friend over and I told him to park just outside of our house (on the shared driveway) as [the neighbors from] house three were out,” the OP (original poster) wrote.
“An hour or so later, [the neighbors from] house three arrived home,” she continued. “Instead of simply asking [our friend] to move the car, they sat there honking on the horn. It’s a short driveway; they could have parked at the end and walked down to their house (plenty of parking on the street at the end of the driveway), but no.”

Her friend proceeded to temporarily move his car — receiving “no thanks” and “no acknowledgment” from the neighbor — and then he reparked in the driveway.
She said they heard more honking “10 minutes later,” as the neighbor had “decided to go out again,” and that this pattern continued for the next several hours.

“It was very obvious that [the] neighbor was deliberately going in and out of the driveway to make some kind of point. So we played her game,” the OP wrote, adding that this went on for “about two hours.”
The OP ultimately went outside and approached the neighbor, asking the other woman why she opted to honk her horn instead of ring their doorbell — to which the other woman said she shouldn’t have to be “getting in and out of the car” when it’s her home that’s being blocked.
The OP went on to share that she is having gravel delivered to her home “tomorrow,” and that the delivery people “will be parking on the shared driveway.”
“Normally, I’d warn [the] neighbor to let her know to get her car out of the driveway so she doesn’t get stuck, but because of yesterday’s performance, I’m not going to bother,” she wrote, noting that this “isn’t the first time” her family has had issues with this specific neigbor.

“AIBU [am I being unreasonable] to let her get her car stuck?” the OP asked as she concluded her post.

The vast majority of commenters told the OP that they think she is entirely in the wrong in this specific scenario.
“I think you’re being childish. Your neighbor should be able to come and go as they wish,” one person said.
“I don’t blame the neighbor for honking rather than getting out of her car. YABU [you are being unreasonable] to use her space,” someone else chimed in.
Another person said, “Your neighbor should always have access to park where they normally park. Yesterday, you were being petty.”
“YATA [you are the a——] — sorry, but you are. Who blocks a shared driveway repeatedly? Block yourself in before your neighbors,” yet another reader wrote.
