When so much of your time is spent in a basketball jersey, off-the-court fashion is all the more important.
USA Today spoke to a collection of players at the Wasserman Basketball and Ally for the Collective WNBA All-Star VIP Party, and inquired into their style preferences (and aversions). Paige Bueckers, Lexie Hull and Hannah Hidalgo each opened up about their respective fashion “don’ts.”

Hidalgo, the 20 year old Notre Dame Fighting Irish guard, confessed she can’t stand a certain recent footwear trend. “The shark boots,” she said, laughing. “Just not my cup of tea.”
The boots, which recently gained popularity in the last year or so, are a spin on the typical knee-high look. While they feature the same thin block heel and pointed toe, the shark boot also has a layer of fabric or leather (depending on the design) that drapes from the top of the boot to below the ankle — imitating a bootcut look.

Bueckers’ fashion no-no similarly deals with the bootcut shape. She firmly believes “bootcut leggings” are a bad choice all around. “Sorry. No offense,” the Dallas Wings player, 23, added.
A similar shape as many kinds of yoga pants, bootcut leggings or “flared leggings” bring a classic jeans cut to a comfier fabric. While the leggings are more forgiving and flexible, some — including Bueckers — just can’t get behind the combination of cut and material.

Hull, 25, shared she’s also apprehensive of an old trend that’s come back to haunt us: “Low rise jeans,” the Indiana Fever guard admitted. “I hate them.”
Low rise jeans were a hallmark of the 2000s, and returned to on-trend closets with the rise of Y2K fashion in recent years. After years of mid- and high-waisted jeans and pants, the hip-barring look was embraced by those looking for a fresh silhouette and, as in Hull’s case, strictly avoided by many others.
