(The Center Square) – Wisconsin has now collected 5.1% more in taxes and fees in the adjusted numbers for the fiscal year as May numbers were released Tuesday afternoon.
The May numbers showed a 49% adjusted increase in income tax collected in May year over year for the month, in part because of April check-processing delays that transferred more payments to the May numbers, an increased estimated to be more than $200 million.
The May numbers showed $384 million more collected than May 2024, with more than half of that due to the inflated income tax numbers. Of that, $341 million came from income taxes.
The state saw nearly $637 million in sales tax collected in May, up from $602 million a year before. The state has collected nearly $184 million more in sales tax this fiscal year than at the same point in 2024.
The revenue numbers and future projections are key as state leaders prepare the next biennial budget.
