A double murder in a rural town takes Will Trent (Ramón Rodríguez) and his GBI partner Faith Mitchell (Iantha Richardson) to a rural Georgia town where the local sheriff, Caleb Broussard (Yul Vaquez), is definitely unhappy about their interference into his local case, even if one the bodies is a deputy sheriff.
Amanda Wagner (Sonja Sohn) had rushed Will out to the crime scene even though he was dressed in his running clothes. But it was urgent because the governor had asked her to intervene.
“There is an order and process to things,” said Will, who wanted to take a shower and suit up, but Amanda wasn’t having it.

But Sheriff Broussard noticed and commented, “Apparently, they don’t have a dress code.”
Will doesn’t warm up to Broussard and sarcastically says, “All business. My kind of guy.”
Once inside the crime scene, a local deputy sheriff runs the evidence to Will and Faith, but he gets it wrong, and Will explains how the double murder really took place. Just then, the victim’s cat comes in and contaminates the crime scene. They manage to shoo her into the other room, but when Will slams the glass door to keep the cat out, because it was already cracked from a gunshot, all the glass breaks, cutting all parties involved, which really contaminated the scene.

Moving on, Will and Faith get a tip from a bartender where the two dead victims met, and when they get to the suspect’s house, Broussard is already there. He recognized the gun at the crime scene because he helped the father, Vince Korda (Kevin Dunn), pick it out for his son, Bo. They’re friends.
The sheriff says he trusts Vince, and Will cautions him, ‘People lie.”
But the sheriff replies, “Maybe to you, not to me.”
The next day, back at the GBI offices, Pete Chin (Kurt Yu) has run the DNA and found something startling. After telling Amanda in private, she instructs him to tell Will.
Pete says, “Multiple parties were injured due to the cat incident at the crime scene. In order to isolate the attacker’s DNA, we analyzed all the blood on the scene and compared it to samples I collected. Two of those samples shared a remarkable number of alleles. “
Will wants to know what that means, and Amanda breaks the shocking news to Will, “Sheriff Caleb Broussard is your father. We’re sharing evidence, so he will find out soon enough. Maybe I should call him. Tell him direct.”

Overwhelmed by the information, Will leaves and goes home to work on a crack in the wall of his house when there’s a knock on his door.
Broussard: “I just thought maybe we should talk.”
Will: “I disagree.”
Broussard: “OK. We’ll just focus on the case.”
Broussard sees that Will is working on his wall. “Water damage?” he asks.
Will: “It’s a wall crack.”
Broussard: “If you cut corners, it will just come back. It’s a 5-step process.”
It’s eerie because Will had said the exact same thing to Amanda, Faith and Nico (Cora Lu Tran) earlier, and Will takes a minute to realize that before answering.
Will: “Yes, I know. I was just about to apply the drywall compound.”
Broussard comes in, and the two men work together on the wall.
Broussard: “I respect your standards, son.”
Will: “Don’t call me that. You don’t know me, and you didn’t raise me.”
Broussard: “I didn’t even know you existed. I spoke to Deputy Director Wagner; she told me you never knew your mother. I’m sorry.”
Will: “Let’s be clear, I don’t want your pity. In fact, I’m not sure I want anything from you.”
Broussard: “I hope that won’t be the case.”
And, in truth, we know it won’t be because if there’s anything we know about Will Trent, it’s that he wants as much information as possible about his mother, so he will eventually want to know about her relationship with Broussard. Faith calls and interrupts the two men with a lead on Bo, but when they get to his house, he’s dead, and there’s a fire. Broussard tries to revive Bo. It’s obvious he’s fond of him, but it’s too late.
Back at the GBI offices, Amanda tells Brussard, “Wilbur Trent is a very special man.”
Broussard: “I’m seeing that.”
Amanda: “There was no one to protect him as a child, no one to look out for him. I look out for him now. Remember that.”
When everyone reconvenes, they realize that they’ve been misdirected as to the cause of the murders, and the real perpetrator is someone who has built bioweapons.
That someone turns out to be Broussard’s friend Vince. And not only that, but he is the one who asked Bo to kill Liam and the deputy, but then Vince killed his own son.
“I’d do it again if I had to,” Vince tells Will and Broussard. “I know you can’t wrap your head around this, but someday you’ll understand. Bo finally did something with his life. The strength of your belief is measured by what you’re willing to sacrifice for it.”
Will says, “We have you. It’s over.”
But Vince disagrees, “No, it’s not over. It’s just begun.”
And we cut to the hospital where Dr. Seth McDale (Scott Foley) is caring for a patient brought in by Nico and Ormewood (Jake McLaughlin), who is dying after being exposed to the bioweapon. And the hospital is put on lockdown as there is no known cure.
Also in the episode, Angie (Erika Christensen, who directed the episode), finds out she’s pregnant.
Will Trent airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC. Streams next day on Hulu.
