Widely-Criticized ’90s Rock Band Blows Fans Away with Incredible Sound: ‘So Underrated’ originally appeared on Parade.
No band has ever been at the end of a musical punchline more than Nickelback. For years, they have been at the brunt end of musical bullying, being hounded as “derivative” or “formulaic.”
Multiple times, they’ve been called the worst band everby major music outlets. Their most popular song, “Photograph” has been so derided, at this point, it’s better known as a meme than a piece of their discography. Needless to say, Nickelback have been drug through the mud.
Despite this, the band has managed to cultivate a decent following, not letting the tidal wave of hate impact them. Lead singer Chad Kroeger has gone on the record saying that the hate has been good for the band however, allowing them to grow thicker skin, and stand out from the crowd.
No matter what, it’s clear that the band has more talent than they’ve been given credit for, as a recent video has fans and critics alike stunned by how great they sound.
Kroeger has some solid chops. The comments on this clip were alive with praise for the band and their ability.
B”y far the BEST sound of any concert I have ever been to. I would go again, and again, and again. And then one more time. Truly amazing that his voice truly sounds the same or better than the soundtrack.”
“I don’t understand the hate.”
“What a voice.”
“So underrated.”
“I know people have always hated on this band, but they will forever be one of my all-time favorites. They’re incredible.”
It’s good to see them succeeding despite all of the negativity they’ve encountered. Here’s to more success despite any critics in the future.
