Warning: This post contains spoilers for the latest episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty season 3.

Things between the Fisher brothers might seem like they’re beyond repair right now, but there’s still room for a reconciliation.

On the latest episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty, which premiered Aug. 27 on Prime Video, a startling late-night confession from Conrad (Christopher Briney) left Belly (Lola Tung) and Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) in ruins, and exposed enough cracks in their relationship that they decided not to get married after all.

After learning that Conrad had confessed his love for Belly just two days before the wedding, Jeremiah got angry, punched him twice, and told him he never wanted to see him again — and that he could never see Belly again either.

Instead, Conrad went right to Belly. He apologized for how last-minute his revelation was — but didn’t take it back — and told her he was leaving town and wouldn’t see her for a long time in what seemed to be a final goodbye for the first loves. The episode ended, though, with a tease of a reunion between them, as Belly caught a glimpse of him in the airport while waiting to board a last-minute flight to Paris.

Despite how badly things were left between Conrad and Jeremiah in the latest episode, their brotherly bond will endure, Briney says.

“Everything and every scene we shoot and all the work we do contributes to their dynamic as brothers,” the actor tells PEOPLE of the siblings’ dynamics this season.

“At the end of the day, they’re blood, so there is that unconditional love,” he says.

That unconditional love, though, is what makes them so tough on each other, as Jeremiah was towards Conrad in the episode. “There’s also that room to be extra brutal, because of that,” Briney notes.

“I mean, who isn’t extra harsh to their family? It’s just sort of inherent. And it doesn’t feel good, but it just sort of is like that.”

Case in point: a certain scene from season 2 brought out the real-life brotherly bond Briney and Casalegno, 25, have formed.

Briney told PEOPLE that he admittedly “probably went too far” off-camera while he was filming a tense scene with Casalegno and Tung, 22, for the season 2 finale — to the extent that Casalegno previously described his costar as going “complete goblin mode.”

“I kept going after they cut,” Briney said of his antics, which Casalegno added were “an all-day occurrence.”

“I think I was letting some stuff out,” Briney joked.

Tung jokingly described it as “method acting,” all day long, which “opened the floodgates” for him.

“I was just trying to stay in it,” Briney said. “I mean, I’ll admit, I definitely took it too far, but I don’t apologize.”

“No, I mean, you did great work. You did great work,” Casalegno told him, and Tung agreed. “The performance is worth it,” she said.

Brotherly woes aside, Briney also offered a candid reflection on how the show’s last season feels — and how life has changed since season 1.

“There’s more eyes,” he says of life now compared to season 1, which premiered in June 2022.

“When we were shooting the first season, it felt like we were doing it for us in a lot of ways, just for the sake of doing it, almost.”

He continues, “There’s no way to really grasp the idea of people watching it — especially to any scale — and you never know if you’re going to do a second or third or whatever season, you think, ‘This could be it.’ So it’s changed a lot.”

“You feel the eyes more and more, and the pressure.”
