Singer Meghan Trainor is opening up about the weight loss drug she took to lose weight, but it might not be a good idea.

The 31-year-old singer seems to be already regretting her choice, noting that people are focusing on her new slimmed-down appearance instead of her music.

Meghan Trainor Is Feeling ‘Great’ After Using Weight Loss Drugs

On Monday, March 31, the “All About That Bass” singer took to Instagram to thank Billboard for recognizing her as a Hitmaker, while at the same time confessing that she was disappointed by the way her appearance was being recognized more than her music.

“Feeling so honored to be recognized by @billboard Women in Music as a Hitmaker—what a dream! But it’s a little disheartening that so many of the questions (and comments) were focused on my body instead of my music, my passion, or the decade of hard work that got me here,” she wrote. “This is what it’s like to be a woman in the music industry.”

Meghan Trainor Gives A Shout-Out To Mounjaro For Her New Figure

While admitting that she didn’t look like she did ten years ago, she explained that she has been “on a journey to be the healthiest, strongest version of myself for my kids and for me. I’ve worked with a dietician, made huge lifestyle changes, started exercising with a trainer, and yes, I used science and support (shoutout to Mounjaro!) to help me after my 2nd pregnancy. And I’m so glad I did because I feel great.”

“Here’s to celebrating talent, growth, and the power of putting yourself first. Let’s keep shifting the convo to what REALLY matters,” she continued, closing out her post with the words “With love” and a blue heart emoji. Fans and celebrity friends were quick to shower her with praise in the comments, both applauding her weight loss and her music career.

How Does Mounjaro Work For Weight Loss?

Mounjaro is another weight loss drug that has been making headlines along with Ozempic and Wegovy. The problem is, although people have been losing weight on the drug, federal health officials have not yet approved Mounjaro for weight loss.

The FDA approved the drug a year ago for patients with diabetes, but have not yet given it a green light for weight loss, according to Dr. Cecilia Low Wang, a UCHealth expert on endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism. Wang explained how the drug works by suppressing appetite to make you feel more full and changes the rate at which your stomach empties.

While Ozempic and Wegovy are brand names for a drug called semaglutide, Mounjaro is the brand for a drug called tirzepatide. While both work to reduce appetite, Mounjaro activates two receptors at the same time, making it a dual-agonist. This means that it could cause people to lose even more weight than those taking semaglutide, a single-receptor.

What Are The Risks Associated With Mounjaro?

There are plenty of risks associated with taking the drug, which is why celebrities like Meghan Trainor should be careful about plugging them. After all, she didn’t get her fit figure merely from using the drug. She also worked with a nutritionist and a personal trainer to get in shape following her second pregnancy. The drug helped, but it wasn’t everything.

Right now, Mounjaro is expensive and hard to get, and can cause unpleasant gastrointestinal side effects. There are also no long-term studies done on those who have consumed this drug yet, so doctors don’t know if taking the drug for an extended period of time can lead to long-term health complications.

Also, like with Ozempic and Wegovy, those who take Mounjaro will likely need to keep taking the medication forever in order to keep the weight off. Mounjaro can be expensive, especially since the FDA has not approved it for those who want to lose weight and don’t have diabetes. That means insurance companies likely won’t cover it.

Why Celebrities Like Meghan Trainer Shouldn’t Share Specifics

It’s fine that Meghan Trainor talked about her weight loss, especially because everyone is asking her about it. It’s her personal decision whether to share what works for her and what doesn’t. We should also commend her honesty that she admitted to using a weight loss drug to shed pounds, as many celebrities are still afraid of the stigma attached to them.

However, she should have stopped short of calling out Mounjaro by name. While the drug helped her lose weight, it’s not for everyone. Currently, the FDA has only approved the drug for those with diabetes, which might give some the wrong idea. Some fans have even commented that they are looking into taking Mounjaro simply because it worked so well for her.

And that’s the problem. Weight loss is a very individual thing, and what worked for her might not necessarily work for someone else. While it’s great the celebrities are honest about their weight loss strategies, it’s important for fans to talk to their doctor to develop personalized strategies that will work for them… not a Grammy-award winning singer that can afford some of the best medical care in the world.
