In June, news broke that soap legend Erika Slezak had joined General Hospital. As Paradereported, Executive Producer Frank Valentini confirmed the One Life to Live star would appear in Port Charles in the fall.
It didn’t take long for the fans to start speculating who Slezak would play on the ABC soap. The rumor mill ran wild that Slezak was a recast for Monica following General Hospital icon Leslie Charleson’s death in January.

That is not the case, and it’s a good thing because fans were not here for a Monica recast. Charleson played Monica on the ABC soap for over 40 years, debuting in 1977.
No, the soap vet isn’t reprising her One Life to Live role either. Vicky won’t be leaving Llanview for Port Charles.
Slezak’s official fan club has confirmed the actress will be playing a new character when she checks into General Hospital. According to her fan club website, Slezak will begin taping in September, but she doesn’t know who she is playing yet.
News that Slezak is bringing a new character to the show comes after Martin (Michael E. Knight) found a mystery letter addressed to Monica. Martin also questioned Yuri (Cyrus Hobbi) about the visitors Monica has had since her health declined.
The timing of Slezak revealing she’s playing a new character and Martin’s curiosity about Monica led some fans to believe that Slezak will be Monica’s long-lost sister.

Fans will have to wait a while to find out if the latest fan theory is true. It would make sense, though, considering General Hospital is setting the stage to say farewell to Monica and pay tribute to Charleson.
