Who Is Manny Jacinto’s Wife? All About Dianne Doan (and the Surprising Place They First Met!)

Manny Jacinto has a supportive partner in Dianne Doan.

The Freakier Friday actor and his wife wed sometime after they got engaged in November 2019.

While the actors tend to keep their relationship out of the public eye, The Good Place star did reveal to PEOPLE in December 2019 how important good music would be when they tied the knot.

“We’re definitely going to have some funky stuff going on, whether it be some hip-hop, or some Motown,” he said. “Some Motown is always a good thing to get people going. So yeah, it needs to be lively and fun, and I think that kind of music is always a good go-to.”

Jacinto added that his main priority was making sure his then-fiancée was pleased on their special day.

“I think as long as she’s happy, I’m happy,” he shared. “It’s going to be more so her day, if anything. So as long as she’s happy and relaxed and calm, I’ll be happy, relaxed and calm. I think that’s the biggest thing.”

She’s from Canada

Doan was born in Abbotsford, British Columbia, in 1990, and had a “very typical Asian upbringing,” she told Today Online in February 2016.

“[My parents were] very strict,” she said. “I couldn’t sleep over at friends’ houses and my only slow dance was high school at the prom. I had to become a lawyer or doctor. But obviously, that didn’t happen!”

Doan is an actress

Doan first became interested in acting in 9th grade when she began taking drama classes as elective courses in school, she told Naluda Magazine. Though she is best known for her role in the series Warrior as leader Mai Ling, Doan had already been acting for nearly a decade beforehand.

After a few small roles on TV shows like Once Upon a Time, she was cast as Lonnie, the daughter of Mulan and Li Shang, in 2015’s Descendants. She reprised her role in the franchise’s prequel mini-series, animated spinoff and 2017 sequel film Descendants 2.

“I actually auditioned to be a dancer in the movie first, just because there wasn’t an acting role available for me,” she told Naluda Magazine in July 2015. “The weekend after, I got the call to audition for the role of Lonnie, so I went in and read for Kenny [Ortega] and Wendy [Japhet], an executive producer. And the rest is history!”

Her additional credits include recurring roles on season 4 of Vikings, season 7 of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and season 21 of Grey’s Anatomy.

Jacinto and Doan met in a hip-hop class

Before Jacinto started his career as an actor, he met Doan in a dance class, she explained in a video for Character Media in March 2022.

“We met in a hip-hop fundamentals training program called ‘Soldiers’ in Vancouver. He wasn’t acting yet, and I kind of put it on back burner, and there was something in me that was like ‘I need to start again’ and whether it’s taking classes or getting back out there for auditions,” she explained.

Doan also jokingly said she was responsible for pushing her husband to go into acting, saying, “I’m not going to take credit for his career, but I’m going to take credit for his career and say that I gave him the wherewithal.”

She’s supportive of Jacinto

While they don’t often discuss each other in interviews, Jacinto and Doan frequently support each other on social media and at special events.

Doan joined Jacinto for the purple carpet premiere of Freakier Friday at Los Angeles’ El Capitan Theatre in July 2025, where she met another one of the film’s stars, Chad Michael Murray.

“Proud is an understatement,” she wrote on Instagram. “We had such a great time celebrating the premiere of Freakier Friday. Having my sister by my side and meeting CMM made our night!”

Jacinto’s The Good Place character inspired him to propose to Doan

In November 2019, Jacinto revealed that he had proposed to Doan. While appearing on a panel for Vulture Festival 2019, the actor shared that his The Good Place character, Jason Mendoza, had inspired him to take the next step in his relationship.

“I was toying [with] when to pop the question for a long time,” he shared, according to Vulture. “I looked at the Janet/Jason relationship, and there’s a sentence that Jason says to Chidi about relationships and it hit me pretty hard. I thought it was a sign that I needed to do it, and a week later I popped the question.”

Jacinto explained how he planned out a day for Doan across several locations that were significant to their relationship.

“I took her to places that really meant a lot to us,” he explained. “Where I first met her, where I first saw her, where we had our first date, and where we had our first dance class.”

“I had these canvas things written down with a message saying why the places were important to us,” Jacinto continued. “At every location I had her close her eyes, I’d hold up the canvas, and she would open her eyes.”

Jacinto and Doan quietly got married

While it is unclear when they tied the knot, PEOPLE confirmed that Jacinto and Doan are married.

A month after announcing their engagement, Jacinto opened up about their wedding planning process, including where they want the nuptials to take place.

The actor revealed that the couple were looking at venues in Vancouver at the time, where they both grew up.

“We like it out there,” he said. “A lot of important moments have happened out there, so I think we’d like to keep it within that city because it’s very special to us.”

“It’s going to come quick, so we have to get ahead of it and be prepared for what’s to come,” he added. “We have a lot of family, so we’ve got to plan it out right so we can all have a good time!”
