My Oxford Year tells the story of two young adults falling in love at the University of Oxford.

The romance unfolds in the picturesque setting of the prestigious university in Oxford in South East England. To capture the true essence of the college, the Netflix movie was filmed inside the school buildings and at various spots around the university.

In addition to filming in and around Oxford, My Oxford Year also featured restaurants, estates and pubs across England. The movie crew ventured to the British cities of London and Windsor for a few scenes.

Both Sofia Carson, who plays Anna De La Vega, and Corey Mylchreest, who plays Jamie Davenport, have spoken about filming in the idyllic locations, especially Oxford.

“It’s such a gorgeous city. It’s full of history, and the architecture is really lovely and it’s really beautiful. It’s this really lovely dichotomy between the fact that all of these buildings are so old and they’ve been there for so long, but they’ve always been for young people,” Mylchreest told The Hollywood Reporter in August 2025. “It was so lovely to film it there as well, because it feels like a big part of the film is the city itself and also the college. It was such a great thing that we got to do it there.”

So, where was My Oxford Year filmed? Here’s everything to know about the Netflix movie’s filming locations.

My Oxford Year follows Carson and Mylchreest’s characters as they embark on an emotional love story while studying at the University of Oxford. Since the love story initially unfolds at Oxford, much of the movie was filmed in the town of Oxford and at the school itself.

The Netflix movie also featured other areas in the United Kingdom — including London, Windsor, Hertfordshire and Hatfield.

As much of the film was shot at the University of Oxford, there were several different colleges and buildings featured within the university. One of the more elaborate locations was the Magdalen College, a constituent college that was founded in 1458, according to Elle.

Director Iain Morris described Magdalen as a “nice metaphor for England: beautiful, ancient, a bit weird, and tricky to get the hang of.”

My Oxford Year also included scenes filmed at the constituent colleges St Hugh’s, Hertford and Christ Church. As the film tells the story of two poets falling in love, a crucial location is the picturesque Bodleian Library, one of the oldest libraries in Europe, and the library’s oldest reading room, Duke Humfrey’s Library. Two other buildings viewers may recognize are the Sheldonian Theatre, which is the theater where all students graduate, and the Clarendon Building.

“I loved the idea of Oxford having this reputation as a stately institution, but the truth being that, from the time of its inception, it’s been intended for students,” Morris explained to Elle. “So for over 900 years, as well as studying, young people have been doing what young people do—getting drunk, falling in and out of love, etcetera—with this incredible backdrop that was designed for them to do exactly that (and a bit of study).”

Morris added that the school also provided a crucial element in Anna and Jamie’s love story, as they are both poets who “fall in love through poetry in Oxford University, which is the most extraordinarily majestic backdrop to frame a love story in.”

In addition to properties on the University of Oxford grounds, the movie also featured scenes at Radcliffe Square, where Anna and Jamie’s characters drunkenly eat kebabs from a cart, per This is Oxfordshire.

While most of the film was shot in Oxford, it still included other spots around the United Kingdom. Hertfordshire County, which is located 70 miles east of Oxford, was another significant filming location for My Oxford Year.

One of the most notable properties featured was the sprawling, lavish estate where Jamie’s family lives. In reality, the estate is called the Hatfield House and is located within Hertfordshire County. The mansion, which was built in 1611, has been featured in other films and television shows like Batman, Paddington, The Crown and Bridgerton, according to Time Out.

Another massive estate featured in My Oxford Year is Knebworth House, which hosted the annual ball for students in the film. Similar to Hatfield House, the Knebworth House is also shown in The Crown and Batman. A third historic home in the film is Rothamsted Manor, an estate built in 1623.

My Oxford Year crew also traveled to Windsor to utilize the takeaway restaurant King Neptune Fish and Chip Shop. The shop’s owner, Arminder Nandra, told the Slough Observer at the time of filming that he had “never seen anything like it before” when the stars took over his shop.

“They just popped into the shop. They said it was the perfect location for what they needed. It was very exciting,” he added.

The movie crew also took over a bar within the Old Court Artspace and transformed it into a pub where Jamie and Anna first hit it off. “They completely rebuilt our bar as an American bar – and put it back as it was in an hour. It was phenomenal,” Old Court director Martin Denny told the Slough Observer.

While the film mostly featured spots in the smaller British towns and cities, some of the cast members briefly ventured to London for a few scenes. In the movie, Anna and her fellow students travel to the English capital to watch the annual rowing boat race that takes place in the River Thames.
