‘What We All Need’: Trump-Musk Feud Drove Scott Jennings To Start Knocking Back Pepto-Bismol

Republican strategist Scott Jennings poured a generous amount of Pepto-Bismol into his mug Thursday while discussing the feud between President Donald Trump and Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

Trump and Musk exchanged cheap shots via posts on their social media platforms Thursday stemming from Musk’s criticism of the reconciliation bill making its way through Congress. Jennings asked “CNN NewsNight” host Abby Phillip to grant him “a little dispensation” as he poured the over-the-counter medication for stomach issues into the mug on live TV. “Pepto-Bismol is what we all need here in the Republican Party,” Jennings said, with former Democratic South Carolina state Rep. Bakari Sellars joking, “I thought it was some Jack Daniels.”

“They might need that, too,” Jennings responded. “I’m just, I’m just, first of all, I just want to. I know that we have our differences here sometimes, but if you could just, if you could give me a little dispensation for the next hour and not beat me to death.”

Musk criticized the reconciliation bill over projections by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) that estimated the bill would increase the deficit by $2.4 trillion over ten years. Jennings worried that the feud could endanger a winning political coalition.

“Here’s the problem: They both have a point,” Jennings said. “Trump’s agenda is in the bill and he wants to pass it, that’s his point. Musk is not wrong about the national debt, and he deeply cares about this and that’s his point. So their goals are not mutually exclusive, which is, I think, the rub.”

“And for all these Republicans out here who, like me, have really enjoyed this coalition, this partnership, I mean, I firmly believe that the relationship and the partnership they formed last year saved America and put us on a path to saving western civilization and now this puts that in jeopardy,” Jennings continued. “And so it’s not just about the daily policy quibbles, it’s about the larger cultural things are at play. So I’m going to have some of this tonight and hope for better days and better skies tomorrow, because I still love them both.”

During the online feud, Musk alleged without providing evidence that Trump was implicated in the Epstein files in a post on X. “Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files. That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!” Musk posted.

Trump, for his part, said the Tesla CEO was wearing thin in a post on Truth Social. “Elon was ‘wearing thin,’ I asked him to leave, I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!” Trump posted.
