President Donald Trump is scheduled to speak on Aug. 11 about his public safety initiative in Washington, D.C.
Trump’s focus on crime in the nation’s capital follows an attack on a high-profile Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) staffer Edward Coristine, 19, also known as “BigBalls.” But violent crime decreased in 2024, marking at least a 30-year low according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.
Trump has sent hundreds of federal law enforcement officers from 18 agencies including the FBI, the Secret Service and the Drug Enforcement Administration, to Washington’s high-traffic areas and hotspots.

Trump is scheduled to speak at 10 a.m. eastern on Monday, Aug. 11.
Trump said on Truth Social that the press conference “will not only involve ending the Crime, Murder, and Death in our Nation’s Capital, but will also be about Cleanliness and the General Physical Renovation and Condition of our once beautiful and well maintained Capital.”
