You can know everything there is to know about a celebrity — but their signature scent can be more elusive. That is, unless they have another famous friend willing to open up aboout their odor.
Last year, the internet went wild when Kate Hudson recalled filming Fool’s Gold with Matthew McConaughey, who famously chooses not to wear deodorant. (Don’t worry: It’s all good since she doesn’t wear deodorant, either.) Other celebrities such as Rihanna, Beyoncé and Oprah have also enchanted fellow stars with their scents, and most recently, Elizabeth Taylor’s granddaughter Eliza Carson also revealed how White Diamonds remains a strong scent memory for her.
Below, see which celebrities have opened up about how other famous people smell.

Matthew McConaughey
Matthew McConaughey, the king of going au naturel, famously skips deodorant. For the 2005 PEOPLE’s Sexiest Man Alive, it’s not as unpleasant for his coworkers as it might be for the average guy, as hisTropic Thunder costar, Yvette Nicole Brown revealed.
“I remember that Matthew McConaughey said that he did not use deodorant and that he didn’t have an odor. So my first thought is, ‘I’m going to get as close as I can to him to see if he’s right,’ ” the actress recalled while on SiriusXM’s The Jess Cagle Show.
“He did not have an odor. He smells like granola and good living,” she joked. “He has a sweet, sweet scent that is just him and it’s not musty or crazy.”
Kate Hudson, who’s also worked with McConaughey on multiple projects, begged to differ: She could “smell him from a mile away” while they were filming Fool’s Gold, she shared. (No worries, though — she also doesn’t wear deodorant.)

While promoting Sinners this past April, television personality Celeste Pellegrini stopped Michael B. Jordan to inform him she had been sent on a “mission” by her followers to find out exactly what the 2020 Sexiest Man Alive smells like.
“I have a mission that my friends told me. They asked me…how do you smell? Can I smell you?” Pellegrini said in a video posted to Instagram.
After taking a quick whiff of the actor, Pellegrini seemed to have come to a conclusion: “Smells like vanilla? It is?”
“Little bit,” the actor played along, though he didn’t reveal the exact fragrance he was wearing.

When it comes to iconic celebrity perfumes, Elizabeth Taylor’s White Diamonds easily comes to mind. And apparently, the late icon wasn’t just pushing products, she actually used them as well.
According to her granddaughter, Eliza Carson — the daughter of Maria, Taylor’s daughter with Richard Burton — the fragrance was such a staple for the Malice in Wonderland actress that it conjures memories for Carson to this day.
“There were areas in my grandmother’s home that always carried the scent of White Diamonds — and in some rooms, Gardenia. Every bathroom had at least two or three of her signature perfumes to choose from,” Carson told PEOPLE exclusively.
“As a young girl, I remember stepping through the heavy double wooden front doors onto the plush white carpet and being instantly greeted by that familiar, sweet fragrance. It was unmistakably her. Even now, that scent brings me right back to those moments — and to her.”

What does one of the world’s biggest media moguls smell like? “Premium,” according to Daniel Kaluuya.
The Get Out actor was introduced to Oprah by Denzel Washington while at the 2018 Golden Globes and the moment was as glorious as one would imagine. “I just hugged her. I hugged her so tightly. She felt so good, man,” he said while on the Graham Norton Show.
Asked about how she smells, Kaluuya responded, “She smells amazing, Graham, I swear. Oprah is just premium.”
The assessment tracks, as James Marsden previously told Conan O’Brien, “She smells like diamonds.”

With a billion-dollar beauty empire, it comes as no surprise that Rihanna has a signature scent people would pay for. Tons of celebrities — from Ryan Seacrest to Lil Nas X, to Jim Parsons to Nick Jonas and more — have spoken out about how great the “Needed Me” singer smells.
Her scent is so popular that when she launched her Fenty Eau de Parfum in 2021, she simply put together a montage of celebrities raving about her spectacular smell to promote the new product. And it worked: The perfume sold out within hours.
For fans who are curious to know what she smells like, the general consensus is that she smells like “heaven.”

Taylor Swift was seen sharing her smell-good secrets while at the 2024 VMAs.
In a TikTok video posted on the RuPaul’s Drag Race page, Xunami Muse was seen asking the “Bad Blood” singer what she was wearing and she mouthed back, “Tom Ford.”
Though she didn’t get into specifics, Elle reports the singer was most likely wearing Santal Blush as the fragrance was spotted in her 2020 Netflix documentary, Miss Americana.

Having released several perfumes herself, Beyoncé has often spoken about how a signature scent is a must-have for her.
And while Queen Bey is rumored to be a fan of Kilian Paris AngelDs’ Share, according to Tyler James Williams, who met her at the 2009 NAACP Image Awards when he was just 14, she simply smells like “success.”

While visiting The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Justin Bieber shared that his wife’s signature scent comes courtesy of another pop star: Ariana Grande. Asked what Hailey smells like, the “What Do You Mean?” singer replied, “She smells like Ariana Grande’s perfume. She smells good. It’s a good smell. It’s like flowery and fruity.”
It turns out Justin was on point when it came to identifying some of Hailey’s favorite notes. In 2024, she became the face of YSL’s Libre Flowers & Flame fragrance.

Regé-Jean Page had the masses swooning when he played Simon, the Duke of Hastings, in Netflix’s Bridgerton. And because the chemistry between him and costar Phoebe Dynevor was so fiery, viewers of the show were supremely curious about how he smelled, given the two had shot several risqué scenes together.
“He smells really, really nice. He never, ever had bad breath, and he doesn’t smoke or anything like that,” she told Glamour. “We both drink a lot of coffee, so sometimes we both smell like that, which was fine.”
“He’s unscented in a good way,” she concluded.

Robert Pattinson
Robert Pattinson has been the face of Dior Homme since 2013. However, the actor revealed that he is not a fan of many other fragrances.
“I hardly ever wear fragrances. If I wear a fragrance, I find it quite overbearing. But this one, for some reason, you don’t really notice you’re wearing it,” he told Allure. “I can never really describe it. People are like, ‘Is it woody smelling?’ But I don’t really know what wood smells like. It definitely makes me feel more awake. There’s something fresh about it.”
Later in the interview, when asked to describe how he smells, the Mickey 17 actor replied, “Lots of people tell me I smell like a crayon … Like I’m embalmed.”
Make of that what you will.

Meryl Streep is your favorite actor’s favorite actor. So much so that when Tiffany Haddish saw her walking down the carpet at the 2018 Oscars, she bailed on her interview and leaped over velvet ropes just to go and say hello.
Asked what the Devil Wears Prada actress smelled like, Haddish responded, “She smells like success.”

We love a girl’s girl and when Sophie Turner was asked what perfume she used back in 2018, the Game of Thrones actor did not gatekeep.
“I love Le Labo Santal 33,” she told Elle, adding that her then-fiancé Joe Jonas would use it too. “The musky smell is a little more manly, but I like men’s cologne. We also have it in candles all over our house.”

Harry Styles fans will be glad to know their favorite lad smells clean.
According to his good pal Lizzo, “Harry smells very good. He smells like soap,” she told Elle UK. “Whatever soap he uses, it smells like that. Like it’s not a cologne or a deodorant thing, it’s whatever soap he showers in. Every time I see him, I be like: ‘You smell like soap!'”

Another pleasant-smelling Sexiest Man! (We promise, we don’t do a smell test before bestowing the honor.) According to Steve Carell, Paul Rudd’s scent changes as the day goes on.
“It’s a sweet citrus, but it changes during the day. I think in the morning, it’s very sweet and citrusy in the morning,” he said when the pair was being interviewed by Entertainment Weekly. “It mellows by the afternoon into more of a burnt, woody [smell].”

Gwyneth Paltrow had the internet buzzing in 2020 when she launched a candle titled “This Smells Like My Vagina” on her Goop website.
And while the candle — which was made with geranium, citrusy bergamot and “cedar absolutes juxtaposed with Damask rose and ambrette seed”— was not meant to “actually smell like anyone’s vagina,” it sold out swiftly.
“… People tried to make it about something else, which is kind of a shame because it was really meant to be this strong feminist statement,” she explained while on her Instagram Stories. “But we no longer make the candle.”
