Wendy Williams ‘Excited’ Ahead Of Jury Trial to Determine Her Fate

Wendy Williams is itching for the jury trial to decide her guardianship so she can tell her story.

The former television show host has been fighting to end her guardianship and insists she is not mentally incapacitated.

Williams’ healthcare advocate has shared how she is feeling as she waits for a jury trial that will determine if her guardianship should be terminated.

In a chat with PEOPLE Magazine, Ginalisa Monterroso said Williams is “excited” for a jury to decide her fate.

She explained that Williams is eager to clarify that she is not mentally incapacitated, saying, “This is something that she’s been wanting to say, and she just can’t wait to get her story out.”

Monterroso continued, “And at the end of the day, she’s going to have a trial by jury, and it will be the jury who will be making the decision.”

Wendy Williams’ healthcare advocate noted that no date had been fixed for the trial but said it would follow additional testing from “an independent neurologist.”

She also explained why she called 911 and wrote a letter to Adult Protective Services on March 10.

Monterroso’s letter and 911 call led to New York agencies visiting the facility where Williams has been living for a welfare check.

Monterroso said, “It was just more of a strategic move to just kind of get more evidence, because this case has been stuck.”

She also said it was decided that Williams should be transported via an ambulance so they could “at least do a short mini assessment at the hospital” and “have some documentation from somebody else outside of this guardianship that can attest” that the former talk show host isn’t incapacitated.

Monterroso also claimed that Williams “passed” the tests to evaluate her mental capacity, adding, “She was alert and oriented, and we were satisfied with that.”

In February 2024, Williams’ medical care team announced via a press release that she was diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in 2023.

When asked about the diagnosis, Monterroso said, “Well, there are different stages of FTD, and we don’t even know if it is actually FTD, because Wendy did drink alcohol. And FTD and alcohol dementia are very similar.”

The health advocate stressed that alcohol-induced dementia is “reversible.” She added, “You just stop drinking. FTD is very progressive. And so if they’re saying that she had this back in 2023, you would see a decline.”

Monterroso continued, “You would see something as far as her speech, as far as her thinking, as far as her messaging, there will be a big indication at this point that something’s wrong.”

She concluded by expressing hope that her decision to let the authorities know about Williams’ condition would raise “awareness to the public that this is very serious and it is a crime to keep somebody isolated.”

Monterroso’s comments follow recent reports that Wendy Williams is waiting for a new cognitive evaluation over which her guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, has some level of control.

According to sources, Williams, who has been frustrated in her quest to terminate her guardianship, “has been told she has to be patient, which is hard but she’s staying positive.”

An insider said the 60-year-old is “hanging on” and remains fully committed to regaining control of her life.

A source told In Touch, “The outpouring of support from fans and from her family who are working tirelessly to get her out of that hell hole has given her a real jolt in the arm.”

While the wait for the new evaluation and jury trial continues, Williams previously celebrated the result of the mental capacity evaluation she did after New York agencies visited the Manhattan assisted living facility where she has been holed up.

During a phone call appearance on Good Day New York on March 11 after her hospital visit, Williams exclaimed, “I passed with flying colors!”

She then asked Monterroso to “elaborate on everything.” The latter, who accompanied her to the hospital, said, “She had those tests, she’s been deemed she is not incapacitated. I think it’s great news, and it’s public, and everybody knows factually that Wendy’s not incapacitated.”

When asked if she was satisfied with the mental evaluation tests, Williams said, “Absolutely!” She added, “That is what I want, and that is what I got.”
