A star of TLC’s Welcome to Plathville has broken their silence over “gossip” surrounding family drama and a marriage proposal that almost went awry.
Lydia Plath Wyse, the Plath family member at the center of the controversy, took to Instagram with a five-part video series about her proposal from now-husband Zac Wyse. She shared her experiences and addressed fan outrage about the behavior of certain members of the Plath family.
In the fourth video installment, Lydia spoke out about the actions of her brothers, Ethan and Micah Plath. During the August 12 episode, the siblings appeared to be trying to sabotage the couple’s romantic moment.
Ethan and Micah later confronted Zac. Ethan objected to the engagement, claiming the couple didn’t know one another well enough to get married. He said, per PEOPLE Magazine, “I don’t know what psychedelics you’re on, but the fact is, you still only spent a week with her. And I don’t like it. And I object.”

Micah subsequently told his future brother-in-law, “If I ever find out that, you know, you did anything to hurt her or anything like that. [If] you ever let her down or anything, there will be consequences.”
Lydia did not directly address her brothers’ on-camera behavior, which included setting a fire at the proposal site, throwing chairs into the water, and rolling down the hills. However, in the video series’ fourth clip, she did say she would discuss what she saw during the episode privately with her family members.
“I know you all want me to talk about my brothers and everything they were doing, but
1, this story was about my experience leading up to the proposal and Zac protected me from a lot of that so I could enjoy the moment,” Lydia wrote.
“2, I’m not gonna speak ABOUT my brothers without talking TO them first, because that’s gossip and It only adds to the problems and not the example I want to set,” she concluded.
Fans didn’t agree with Lydia’s assessment of the situation. They believed all the evidence she needed to see was caught by TLC’s cameras.
One fan wrote, “It’s gross that everyone thinks the immaturity of Ethan gets a say. He’s not your dad. He’s your brother who, as I recall, was FREE to make his own mistakes in his young marriage.” A second noted, “Your brothers don’t deserve the respect you’re giving them. They don’t respect you, and they certainly don’t respect your husband.”
A third viewer penned, “Your brother’s behavior was absolutely despicable, and that’s not gossip, that is what every single person watching experienced. How dare they treat you and your husband that way. They are obviously super threatened by a man who knows himself and leads with kindness and humility, two things that obviously have no grasp on.”
