The newest episode of TLC’s Welcome to Plathville will feature the long-awaited engagement between Lydia Plath and Zac Wyse, capturing a romantic, family-filled celebration. However, a moment shown in the teaser trailer has already sparked outrage among fans.
All of the members of the Plath family watched the moment Zac asked Lydia to be his wife. It was a carefully orchestrated celebration between the groom-to-be and his future in-laws, featured on TLC’s Instagram page.
However, the sweetness of the proposal was almost upended by Lydia’s oldest brother, Ethan Plath. His unexpected comment added a dark tone to the couple’s moment.
In the clip, Lydia walks toward Zac, pausing to hug each of her family members first. Then, the couple embraced before he got down on one knee and asked her to be his wife.

“Lydia Joy Plath, will you marry me?” Zac asked. It was then that Ethan whispered, “Please say no. God, she’s gonna say yes.”
On Instagram, fans were outraged by Ethan’s remarks during one of the most important moments in his younger sister’s life. The comments section quickly filled with accusations questioning why he would try to ruin such a special event.
“If Ethan was going to be like that, why did he even show up?” questioned one viewer. A second wrote, “Why is he even there, spreading his bad energy and ill wishes ?! It’s not about you Ethan!”
“When Lydia sees this, she will be so heartbroken that her brother did this,” a third fan penned. A fourth agreed, “What a beautiful heartfelt moment, and Ethan just ruins the audio, heartbreaking.”
Ethan’s commentary came on the heels of a discussion with his younger sister where he voiced his concerns about the speed at which her relationship with Zac progressed. This difficult conversation drove Lydia to tears.
“If I was watching someone else go through this and I wasn’t experiencing it, I don’t think I’d be able to fully understand,” she said of her relationship. Ethan responded, “I don’t understand — it’s too fast, it’s too much.”
“Like I said, I don’t really know him, I don’t really like him,” he continued. Lydia asked, “Why is that?”
“I’m just being honest with you,” Ethan replied. “I just don’t like him, but I don’t know if that’s because I don’t know him yet or if it’s just because I’m being protective of you and it’s all really fast.”
