President Trump signed the GOP’s “big, beautiful bill” into law Friday afternoon from the White House.
House Republicans passed the massive spending and tax package Thursday after tense debate, and just a day after the Senate moved the legislation — with many changes from the original blueprint — following weeks of internal battles over cuts to Medicaid and the federal nutrition assistance program, an extension on 2017 tax breaks and how much provisions within the megabill could add to the national debt.
Still, Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) and Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) kept to their word of having the reconciliation package on Trump’s desk by the self-imposed July 4 deadline.
Trump signed the bill as he hosted an Independence Day picnic for military families.
