Earlier this year, Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels told Entertainment Weekly that SNL alum Tina Fey could easily take the helm when he retires. But would the Emmy winner be open to doing so? When asked by Parade in an exclusive interview alongside Will Forte, who appeared just as eager to hear Fey’s response, the actress sidestepped the question.

“Oh…I think Will should do it,” she said.
Forte accepted, saying, “I’m gonna do it, I guess.”
“Will’s gonna do it!” Fey clapped. “SNL!”
“It’s decided,” Forte declared.
Fey and Forte were both cast members and writers on Saturday Night Live, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The pair’s experiences on the live sketch comedy show have had an impact on how they approach taking risks and trusting their instincts in roles post-SNL.

“I feel like you lose some of your fear of failure in a way because you inevitably eat sh-t on Saturday Night Live at some point,” Fey said. “You survive like having something go badly, so you kind of like, ‘Oh, well.'”
Forte agreed with Fey, adding, “That goes for every step of the way. Being at The Groundlings, that sets you up for getting used to failure on the SNL stage, which gets you, you know, it’s like every step of the way is preparing me for the next failure.”
Fey laughed, “Failing at a higher and higher level.”

Far from failing, the two have built successful careers since their time on SNL, and can be seen together onscreen, playing husband and wife, in Netflix’s new must-watch series The Four Seasons, also starring Steve Carell, Kerri Kenney-Silver, Colman Domingo, Marco Calvani and Erika Henningsen. The eight-episode comedy, based on the 1981 movie of the same name, follows three sets of couples who vacation together each season.
“It was the best experience,” Forte said, telling Fey, “Thank you.”
