Joy Woods, Tony Award-nominated for her performance as Louise in the Broadway revival of Gypsy, and her co-star Jordan Tyson bring down the house with their powerhouse vocals each night at the Majestic Theatre.
In an exclusive music video shared with Parade, the actresses record the song “If Momma Was Married” from the Tony Award-nominated revival, starring Audra McDonald as their overbearing stage mother Rose.

“To be completely honest, performing with Jordan is such a mixed bag in the best way,” Woods exclusively tells Parade of recording the Gypsy cast album with her co-star. “She is so honest and present with where she’s at in the moment, and while I’m still learning that level of presence, I feel like she guides me and nudges me more every day. I’m fiercely protective of making sure people see her shine.”
Adds Tyson, “I hope [those listening to the cast album] feel happy hearing such a classic score in a new, crisp way. I think it’s interesting, as the years have gone by since the original, how vocal styles and arrangements have changed and what they say about the year/decade the cast albums are released! I’m also hoping they can close their eyes and feel the journey without being able to see it on stage.”
The Gypsy cast album, which was released digitally on April 25, will have CD and vinyl editions hit shelves on Friday, July 25. Click here to preorder.
The CD will feature an eight-page booklet that includes production notes and exclusive photography. The two-LP vinyl/book edition will feature a hand-numbered, limited-edition 64-page hardback book, which contains 13 exclusive essays, exclusive production photography and lyrics.
In addition, the first 500 copies of the vinyl edition will include a 6×11 personally signed color photograph of McDonald in the recording booth, exclusive to the official Gypsy online store powered by Rhino.
Gypsy currently plays New York City’s Majestic Theatre. The album is produced by David Caddick, David Lai and Andy Einhorn.
