Attorney General Pam Bondi gave remarks Friday afternoon after news broke that Kilmar Abrego Garcia — the man mistakenly deported to El Salvador earlier this year — would be returned to the U.S.

Abrego Garcia’s case has sparked controversy amid President Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration. The man, who had been living in Maryland under a protective order, was accused by the administration of having ties to the MS-13 gang and was deported to El Salvador’s most notorious prison in March. He and his wife have denied the gang claims.

Several Democratic lawmakers have made trips to visit him in the Central American nation amid the battle. The Supreme Court earlier this year ordered the administration to facilitate his return, but Trump and Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele both signaled they didn’t have the authority to do so.

Last month, the White House formerly invoked the state secrets privilege to avoid handing over documents in the legal battle over Abrego Garcia.

The press conference was scheduled to begin at 3:45 p.m. EDT.
