Former Vice President Kamala Harris laughed hysterically on Thursday when late night host Stephen Colbert simply asked her to talk about her new book.

Harris gave her first post-election interview to Colbert, whose show is getting canceled by CBS for financial reasons, in an attempt to sell her upcoming book, “107 Days.” The former vice president could not stop cracking up as she described that there is “a lot of personal stuff” in her book.

“I mean, there’s a lot of personal stuff in the book. Poor [Doug Emhoff]. For example, my birthday is in October, the election is in November. You see where I’m going? And Dougy kinda dropped the ball on my big birthday. You have to read the book,” Harris said. During the interview, Harris claimed that she opted out of running in California’s gubernatorial race because “the system” is “broken.” However, Harris spent decades in political office, which included her role as district attorney of San Francisco, attorney general of California, a U.S. senator from California and finally vice president.

Colbert also asked Harris to answer the question of who is currently leading the Democratic Party. The former vice president filibustered the question by saying “there are so many names” of Democrats who are currently leading the party that she couldn’t name them all.

“I’m not going to go through names because then I’m going to leave somebody out and I’m going to hear about it,” Harris said. “Let me say this: I think it is a mistake for us who want to figure out how to get out and through this and get out of it to put it on the shoulders of any one person. It’s really on all of our shoulders. It really is.”

Harris’ political future remains up in the air since she lost the 2024 presidential election to President Donald Trump. Democratic donors and political strategists have remained unenthused about the idea of her entering the 2028 Democratic presidential primary or the California governor’s race, particularly due to her campaign spending $1.5 billion that included interviews and celebrity appearances.
