Progressive Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) endorsed Minnesota Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan (D) in Minnesota’s Democratic Senate primary on Tuesday.

Warren made the endorsement in a video posted on social platform X in which she called Flanagan “a fighter.”

“Running for office is an act of hope and Peggy gives me hope for the future,” she said. “She is the partner I need in the Senate to make real progress on the issues that matter to you.”

Flanagan is one of a number of Democrats seeking to replace Sen. Tina Smith (D-Minn.), who announced she will not seek reelection earlier this year. Rep. Angie Craig (D-Minn.) also threw her hat in the ring last month, picking up an early endorsement from former Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.).

“@AngieCraigMN is going to be a great Senator and gets my wholehearted endorsement. A business leader, pragmatic progressive, and common sense sister, she became ranking member of the House Ag Committee in just six years,” Phillips wrote on X. “Angie gets stuff done for America. Now it’s our turn to get it done for her.”

Former state Sen. Melisa Franzen (D) has also launched a bid for the seat, while state Rep. Melissa Hortman (D) has been floated as a potential candidate.

The Senate seat leans Democratic, but Republicans are viewing the seat as a potential pickup opportunity.

A handful of Republicans are running for the seat, including former Senate candidates Royce White and Mike Ruoho in addition to retired Navy SEAL Adam Schwarze.
