The staffs of the Washington Post and Wall Street Journal both took home Pulitzer Prizes on Monday for reporting on President Trump and Elon Musk.

The Post earned the award in the breaking news category for its reporting on the first attempted assassination against Trump on July 13 during a campaign rally in Butler, Pa.

The Journal won the top prize for national reporting for its extensive reporting on the personal and public life of Musk, including his relationships with business associates, drug use and shifting political orientation as he entered Trump’s inner circle.

Doug Mills, a top photographer at the New York Times, took home the prize for breaking news photography for an image captured during the same Trump assassination attempt that showed a bullet whizzing by the GOP nominee’s head as he spoke.

Former Post cartoonist Ann Telnaes won in the Illustrated Reporting and Commentary category. Telnaes left the Post earlier this year after the newspaper axed a cartoon she authored criticizing Trump and Jeff Bezos, the newspaper’s billionaire owner.

Trump has shown contention toward the Pulitzer board in recent years, suing the organization in 2022 over Pulitzers that had been awarded for stories about Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.
