Vera Wang is so legendary that her namesake label has been featured in Sex and the City not once, but twice: Ahead of her wedding to Trey MacDougal, Charlotte and her bridesmaids get fitted at the prolific designer’s Upper East Side salon, while Carrie Bradshaw models a Vera Wang gown during her bridal Vogue shoot, featured in the first SATC movie.
Just days after her 76th birthday, Wang herself is paying homage to the franchise by taking style cues from Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie: her new all-black ensemble features a high-waisted belt (worn over bare skin, natch) paired with a crop top and a low-rise skirt.
“When shopping at PRADA in PARIS…. Avenue Montaigne …35 meters from my airconditioning…. trying to be a bit fashionyyyy 🖤🙏😌,” Wang wrote in the caption of her latest Instagram post.
Wang’s look recalls one of Carrie’s most controversial outfits, worn in season 4 of SATC. Entitled “Change of a Dress,” the sex columnist contemplates her engagement to Aidan Shaw in the 2002 episode. In one scene, Carrie’s purple-and-green ensemble includes a waist belt worn just below a crop top.

“She was wearing a skirt and a crop top, and I threw a belt around her naked waist. Even when I did it I was hesitant, but I think Sarah Jessica liked it, so I went ahead and kept it on,” the show’s costume designer Patricia Field once told Repeller. “When I saw it later I thought it was just obnoxious. I should have slung the belt a little lower.”
Wang, whose birthday was June 27, is fittingly celebrating her 76th in fashion’s capital. The designer shared several photos from a dinner held in her honor last week.
“A real WANG GANG moment !…..Paris branch.🇫🇷👏🍽️🎂🎉🍾,” she captioned one of several carousels.
