Vice President Vance described the first 100 days of President Trump’s return to the White House as a “revival” of the American spirit in a Friday op-ed in The Washington Post.
“In just 100 days, the Trump administration has begun to tear down the barriers standing between our nation’s working class and the American Dream,” he wrote. “This is more than a recovery from the Biden years; it’s the revival of the spirit that led our ancestors to build the greatest nation on Earth.”
“As President Trump is fond of saying, the best is yet to come,” he added.
Trump’s approval ratings have plummeted since his Jan. 20 inauguration, and critics have focused on a series of seemingly self-inflicted political wounds. Multiple polls at the 100-day mark found voters across the political spectrum oppose the administration’s hefty tariff hikes, the decision to let tech billionaire Elon Musk gut funding for federal programs and Trump’s handling of the war between Russia and Ukraine; and they agree prices are still too high, despite Trump’s campaign promise to bring them down.
But Vance argued in The Washington Post piece that the administration is giving voters what they wanted — a dramatic reversal from the Biden administration.
“The president and I campaigned on reversing Joe Biden’s failures and returning to the successful, proven policies of President Trump’s first term — and expanding on them. And we’re delivering,” he wrote.
Vance, who represented Ohio in the Senate for a little more than a year before Trump picked him to be his 2024 running mate last summer, lauded Trump’s record-breaking list of executive orders and specifically highlighted the administration’s immigration crackdown.
“The most immediate measure of success has been the near elimination of illegal immigration,” he wrote. “The results speak for themselves.”
He also defended the “Liberation Day” tariffs as “building a more level playing field for America’s labor force.”
Vance didn’t mention Musk or the Department of Government Efficiency’s impact on the federal workforce. He also didn’t specifically address the ongoing war in Ukraine, but he briefly noted efforts “to promote peace overseas.”
