The United States Postal Service’s newest stamp collection is finally here, transforming the iconic children’s book Goodnight Moon into tiny illustrated works of art months after the postage partnership was first announced.
On Friday, May 2, the USPS revealed a collection of Forever Stamps based on artwork from the classic novel written by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Clement Hurd would finally be available to purchase during a special event at The Rabbit hOle, a museum that brings to life a century of American children’s literature.

The new pane of stamps was designed by Derry Noyes, an art director for the Postal Service, using existing art created by Hurd, according to the release. It re-imagines several themes in the book–which has sold more than 48 million copies since its debut in 1947–as standalone artistic illustrations, including a near-replica of the novel’s Great Green Room.
In total, eight illustrations from the novel have been transformed into standout pieces of postage. Each of the designs–which include the young bunny tucked into bed, the painting of the three little bears, the toy house pictured on the bedroom floor, socks and mittens hung to dry, the older bunny knitting in a rocking chair, the nightstand table beside a window, a tiny mouse warming before a fireplace and a painting of a cow jumping over the moon–appears twice in the pane.
“I’m sure Margaret and Clem would have loved the beautifully designed stamps created byDerry Noyes and USPS,” children’s book creator and son of the Goodnight Moon illustrator Thacher Hurd said in a statement.
“These nostalgic stamps not only celebrate the timeless charm of ‘Goodnight Moon’ but also highlight the enduring relevance of both stamps and children’s literature in a digital age,” added Postal Service’s stamp services director Lisa Bobb-Semple.
Each sheet of Goodnight Moon postage includes 16 stamps that are issued as Forever stamps and will always be equal in value to the current First-Class Mail 1-ounce price. Those looking to score a pane or two can find the Goodnight Moon collection at their local post office or online ($11.68 per sheet). It’s currently unclear how long the special Forever Stamp collection will be around.
