The mystery in season two will be set in a different national park.
Netflix announced today that everyone’s favorite National Park Service special agent (to be fair, we can’t think of many others) will be returning for a second season.
Eric Bana starred as Investigative Services Branch agent Kyle Turner in the crime drama that released as a six-episode miniseries on July 17. Bana is set to return as the park veteran to solve a whole new mystery. “I am absolutely thrilled that we get the chance to bring another season of Untamed to life,” star Eric Bana said in a statement. “The response to Season 1 has been a testament to the incredible effort by our crew to deliver something truly unique. I can’t wait to take Kyle on his next journey.”
Co-creators and dad-and-daughter duo Mark L. and Elle Smith shared to Tudum that making a season two wasn’t the plan all along. “Elle and I envisioned it as a stand-alone, six episodes,” Mark said. “But then the more that we got into it, it was just such a great cast … it was just like, ‘Oh yeah, how do we keep this going?’”
Ahead, we rounded up everything we know about the upcoming season so far.
Where will season two be set?
While the official setting of season two has yet to be announced, the Smiths explained why Kyle won’t head back to Yosemite.
“Our theme has been that this park is our main character, this park is sort of alive,” Elle told Tudum. “We do want to maintain that thread. Whichever park we choose will be a character and it will kind of play a role in Turner’s emotional frame of mind.”
Elle wants the park to be truly distinct from Yosemite to allow for a fresh story. “Each national park has such a different cultural identity, geographical identity. Being able to explore those places through the case and through Turner’s journey is what’s so fascinating,” she said.
What will happen in season two?
Season two will follow a whole new mystery in a park unfamiliar to Turner.
“We can make the case organic to a different kind of park, a different kind of landscape, [and] not have someone just fall off another mountain,” Mark told Tudum.
On someone else’s turf, Turner will take on more of a rookie role in solving whatever case unfolds.
“Turner was so comfortable in Yosemite,” Mark said. “He was the one leading this charge, and people followed him. And now, [we’re] putting Kyle on his back foot, making him very uncomfortable … This time we get to follow Turner into a park and let him lead us, and we stumble along with him as he’s kind of finding his way.”
Who will be in season two?
Eric Bana is the only cast member confirmed to return. Considering the location change, it would be fair to assume that the cast will be mostly new faces.
Mark offered a vague hint about the upcoming cast of characters, saying, “We’re going to make sure we populate it with characters that are interesting and help him in ways both good and bad.”
When will season two come out?
While a release date has not been set, season one began filming in June 2024 and was released a little over a year later. If season two begins production in the next few months, we could get season two by late 2026.
Where can I watch Untamed?
Untamed season one is available to stream now on Netflix.
