Unemployment rates remain the same in Arizona and Nevada

(The Center Square) — Arizona and Nevada saw their unemployment rate unchanged in July.

Arizona’s jobless rate remained at 4.1% while Nevada’s rate was 5.4%, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

This marked the fifth consecutive month that Arizona has had the same jobless rate.

At the beginning of 2025, Nevada had the highest unemployment rate in the country at 5.8%. From January to July, the state’s jobless rate has dropped 0.4%

Nevada saw the addition of 1,100 seasonally adjusted nonfarm jobs.

Arizona, between June and July, lost 18,600 non-seasonally adjusted, nonfarm jobs.

The Arizona industry hit the hardest by the jobless rates was the leisure and hospitality sector, which lost 7,900 jobs. The state’s second most-impacted industry was government, which lost 5,200 jobs.

Another industry that got hit during July was “trade, transportation and utilities,” which lost 4,200 jobs.

The industry that gained the most employment in July was health care and social assistance at 2,900 jobs.

The two other industries that saw employment gain were financial activities and natural resources and mining, which gained 1,200 jobs and 300 jobs, respectively.

Year over year, Arizona saw an increase of 34,300 jobs, with the private sector increasing its employment by 37,200 jobs, but the government sector losing 2,900 jobs.

The top private sector industries that gained jobs were health care and social assistance (22,200 jobs), private educational services (4,700) and professional and business services (4,400).

Besides the government sector, industries that saw the biggest employment loss during this time span were manufacturing (a loss of 3,000 jobs), trade, transportation and utilities (2,600), and information (1,200).

For Nevada, month over month, the biggest employment gainer was the government, which added 2,300 jobs.

Manufacturing and construction industries in Nevada gained 400 jobs during this time span.

The industry that took the biggest hit in July was leisure and hospitality, with a loss of 1,800 jobs.

Compared to the national average, Arizona’s unemployment rate is 0.1 percentage points lower than the national average of 4.2%. This rank tied for America’s 18th-highest jobless rate.

Nevada has America’s third-highest unemployment rate.

Washington, D.C., now has the country’s highest unemployment rate, followed by California.
