With major championship season now behind us, it’s nearly time for the golf world to turn its attention to the Ryder Cup.

While that’s still roughly two months out, the qualification period for the U.S. Team is almost up.

The top six golfers in the Ryder Cup standings after the BMW Championship on Aug. 17 will automatically earn a spot on the United States team, which is being led by Keegan Bradley this time around. Then, Bradley will make his six captain’s picks to round out the 12-man team that will go up against Team Europe at Bethpage Black in New York in September.

While there are still several PGA Tour events left before the period ends, the top six is largely solidified already. Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler, fresh off his dominant win at the British Open, has already earned his spot. He holds a massive lead in the standings, and has more than doubled up No. 2 Xander Schauffele in points.

Bryson DeChambeau has been promised a spot, too. Bradley said after the British Open that DeChambeau would receive a place on the team regardless of whether he qualifies. DeChambeau is currently sitting at No. 5 on the list, but he can’t earn any more points while playing with LIV Golf.

Here’s a look at where things stand for both the Americans and the Europeans in the Ryder Cup race:

This group is currently safe and set to earn an automatic qualifying spot onto the team. The only two golfers who are really at risk of slipping are Harris English and DeChambeau — though DeChambeau has already been promised a spot regardless.

Even though there is still about a month left before qualification ends, this group is mostly too far behind to make a move. The only golfer in position to pull that off is Justin Thomas. He’s about 175 points back from English, and he was actually in No. 6 entering the British Open. Thomas would likely receive a captain’s pick if he doesn’t qualify, but he still has time to crack the top six again and remove any doubt.

The European team follows a similar qualification method, though their period ends after the Betfred British Masters on Aug. 24. The top six golfers at that point will be in, and then Luke Donald will make his captain’s picks. Rory McIlroy, like Scheffler, has already secured his place.
