President Donald Trump’s average approval rating is holding steady this week, as his legislative package promising an extension of 2017 tax cuts cleared the Senate and lands back in the House heading into the July 4 holiday.
An average of recent polling from the New York Times shows Trump’s approval rating is 44%, as of Thursday, July 2, with 52% disapproving of his job performance. That’s basically the same as his ratings all of May and June, with the Times’ average approval swaying between 44% and 46%.
Similar polling aggregations track a similar overall plateau in Americans’ approval of the Republican president.
Pollster Nate Silver’s “Silver Bulletin” newsletter calculated the president has a 45% approval and 51% disapproval average this week, roughly the same as last week’s ending June 24.

Trump in mid-April ended the first 100 days of his second term with an average 45% job approval rating, according to an analysis by Gallup, which has largely stuck in aggregations in the weeks since, give or take one or two points. Though higher than the 41% he earned in his first term near the 100-day mark, it was well below the average approval rating for modern presidents during the same time frame. All other U.S. presidents stretching back to Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1952 have averaged a 60% approval rating during their first three months on the job.
