Trump: Harvard deal expected in ‘next week or so’

President Trump posted Friday on Truth Social that his administration is expecting to make a deal with Harvard after its numerous actions against the university.

“Many people have been asking what is going on with Harvard University and their largescale improprieties that we have been addressing, looking for a solution. We have been working closely with Harvard, and it is very possible that a Deal will be announced over the next week or so,” Trump said.

“They have acted extremely appropriately during these negotiations, and appear to be committed to doing what is right. If a Settlement is made on the basis that is currently being discussed, it will be ‘mindbogglingly’ HISTORIC, and very good for our Country. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” he added.

The Hill has reached out to Harvard for comment.

It is unclear if a deal would cover the full scope of the Trump administration’s action against Harvard or only a specific portion.

In the past few months, the Trump administration has launched numerous federal investigations against Harvard. It has also sought to revoke the school’s tax-exempt status, paused billions of dollars in funding, and attempted to take away the university’s ability to enroll foreign students.

The administration and Harvard are engaged in two lawsuits over the $3 billion funding pause and the directive to take away the university’s foreign students.

A hearing is set for July for the funding pause case, and a judge has temporarily ruled in favor of Harvard to block Trump’s actions against the university’s foreign students.

A deal in this fight would rock the higher education world as many have seen Harvard as leading the charge against what advocates say is Trump’s overreach in university operations.
