Trump says DC will be ‘LIBERATED’ ahead of news conference
President Donald Trump said it’s “LIBERATION DAY IN D.C.” and said that “Crime, Savagery, Filth, and Scum will DISAPPEAR” in a pair of social media posts Monday, as he is set to hold a press conference on safety and crime in the nation’s capital.
“Washington, D.C. will be LIBERATED today! Crime, Savagery, Filth, and Scum will DISAPPEAR. I will, MAKE OUR CAPITAL GREAT AGAIN! The days of ruthlessly killing, or hurting, innocent people, are OVER!,” Trump wrote in a post on his conservative social media platform.
Trump’s claims, however, come as preliminary year-to-date crime comparisons from Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department show that overall crime in D.C. has decreased by 7% since last year, with violent crime down 26% and property crime reduced by 5%.

What Trump said about crime in Washington ahead of his press conference
President Donald Trump is scheduled on Monday to hold a press conference at the White House, where he’ll speak about law enforcement, including “ending the Crime, Murder, and Death in our Nation’s Capital,” he said.
Trump in a series of social media posts said he would discuss stopping violent crime in Washington, which he described as “one of the most dangerous cities anywhere in the World.”
“It will soon be one of the safest,” he said.
Contrary to the president’s claim, preliminary year-to-date crime comparisons from Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department show that overall crime in D.C. has decreased by 7% since last year, with violent crime down 26% and property crime reduced by 5%.
The Department of Justice said in January that violent crime in Washington last year was “the lowest it has been in over 30 years,” citing police data.
Trump on Sunday issued a warning to “Criminals” in Washington, saying, “We’re going to put you in jail where you belong. It’s all going to happen very fast, just like the Border. We went from millions pouring in, to ZERO in the last few months.”
He added, “This will be easier — Be prepared! There will be no ‘MR. NICE GUY.’ We want our Capital BACK. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
