Travis Kelce’s father, Ed, is spilling all the details about the NFL star’s proposal to Taylor Swift.
Ed Kelce, 74, spoke to News 5 Cleveland after the newly engaged couple announced their news on Tuesday, Aug. 26. The proud father shared that the Super Bowl champion, 35, proposed about two weeks ago — but had thought about waiting longer.
“He was going to put it off till this week,” Ed told the outlet, before adding. “I think she was getting maybe a little antsy.”
“But he was going to put her off till this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event,” he continued. “And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”
Ed also said that the singer’s father, Scott Swift, was saying similar sentiments to Travis.

Ultimately, Travis popped the question at his home in Lee’s Summit, Mo., his dad shared. Ed explained that Travis told Taylor, 35, “’Let’s go out and have a glass of wine.’ ”
“They got out there, and that’s when he asked her, and it was beautiful,” Ed said.
“They started FaceTiming me and their mother [Donna] and [Taylor’s] folks to make sure everybody knew,” he said. Noting that as soon as he saw he had a FaceTime call from Travis and Taylor, he “knew what they were going to say, and they, you know, let us know.”
Ed told the outlet that he had known about Travis’ plan to propose for months, and expected his son to ask the question during the 2024-2025 NFL season.
“They’re just two young people very much in love, cast in a spotlight that they really haven’t sought but kind of followed with their success in their respective fields,” Ed Kelce said.

The source noted that “the Kelces adore Taylor,” referring to his parents, brother Jason and sister-in-law Kylie. “She goes out of her way to show the whole family how much she cares for not just Travis, but all of them, down to Jason’s kids,” the source said.
