“Tonight in New Orleans, we encounter a mission that doesn’t come along very often,” Cruise declared, subtly referencing his “Mission: Impossible” films, adding that the “long, winding road here has all led to this.”

The montage highlighted top players from both teams, including Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelce, and Jalen Hurts, as they stood before a sea of cameras, symbolizing the immense pressure of the game.

Cruise remarked that he saw no “fear” in their eyes, emphasizing that they were “the very best in the world, men who have worked and dedicated their entire lives for today.”

Some speculated that his face appeared unnaturally “stretched,” fueling rumors of recent cosmetic enhancements.

One person quipped, “Tom Cruise on this #SuperBowlLIX talking about pressure – there is no greater pressure than that of his skin trying to stay stretched on his face.”

Some even suggested he looked like he was wearing a mask, writing: “Scientology is not working for Tom Cruise’s face WTF?”

Another person joked, “Tom Cruise’s hair & face looks like the mask the psychopath in Cross puts on.”

Tom Cruise Details Intense Underwater Stunt For ‘Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning’

In an interview with Empire magazine, Cruise revealed that he endured intense physical strain while filming a high-stakes underwater scene for “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning.”

In the sequence, Cruise’s character, Ethan Hunt, explores a sunken submarine inside an 8.5 million-liter water tank mounted on a rotating gimbal, allowing the set to move on command.

Wearing a specially designed suit and mask, Cruise could only stay in the gear for 10 minutes at a time before experiencing hypoxia, which is oxygen deprivation that affects the muscles.

“I’m breathing in my own carbon dioxide,” Cruise explained, per Variety. “It builds up in the body and affects the muscles. You have to overcome all of that while you’re doing it, and be present.”

Director Christopher McQuarrie, a longtime collaborator of Cruise, described the scene as one of the most challenging and terrifying to film.

“He’s in a rotating structure filled with debris, and you had to find a way to make that environment look as chaotic and unhinged as humanly possible,” McQuarrie said. “But in a way that you could repeat, and that Tom could navigate, and survive.”

“We had a small screening, and someone said, ‘I was suffocating throughout the entire sequence. I almost had a heart attack,'” McQuarrie revealed, per Games Radar.

The 56-year-old filmmaker noted that he responded to the audience member’s remarks with a sense of pride.

McQuarrie said, “I thought, ‘I guess we did something right.'”

Cruise previously told the publication that he blacked out multiple times while filming another extreme stunt for “Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning,” one that had him clinging to the side of a flying airplane.

“When you stick your face out [of an airplane], going over 120 to 130 miles an hour, you’re not getting oxygen,” Cruise explained.

He added, “So, I had to train myself how to breathe. There were times I would pass out physically; I was unable to get back into the cockpit.”
