NEED TO KNOW

  • Todd and Julie Chrisley spoke with guest Kandi Burruss about living behind bars for 28 months before being pardoned by Donald Trump in May on the latest episode of their podcast, Chrisley Confessions 2.0

  • They also explained why Julie worked and Todd didn’t during their time in prison

  • They were previously indicted on 12 counts of bank and wire fraud, tax evasion and conspiracy in 2019

Todd and Julie Chrisley had different approaches to their time in prison.

During the Aug. 13 episode of their Chrisley Confessions 2.0 podcast, the couple opened up to guest and longtime friend Kandi Burruss about how they spent their 28 months behind bars. When The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum, 49, joked that “I just can’t see you in jail,” Todd, 57, claimed that he actually adapted pretty well.

“I ran my block,” he shared, calling his facility “a busted inner-city school camp.”

Julie said her experience being incarcerated wasn’t as smooth as Todd’s.

“I did hard time,” she noted. “I adhered to the rules. Keep in mind, I was in a place where there was no air conditioning.”

“Did they have you picking up trash on the side of the road?” Burruss then asked, to which Todd declared that he “went there to do time, not chores,” unlike his wife.

“I did work, he didn’t,” Julie, 52, said.

“I refused,” Todd interjected.

Julie revealed she worked in the commissary department, which is a store where inmates can purchase varying items that aren’t provided by the facility.

“I wanted to make sure I could order my shampoo and body wash and makeup,” Julie explained. “I mean, it wasn’t MAC, but we could get the CoverGirl, the Maybelline, the Wet N’ Wild. So, we went back to the Wet N’ Wild.”

“You would walk down the hall and somebody would have on fake lashes, fake hair, there was more weave in there,” she continued.

The one thing Julie wasn’t able to do was bleach her hair blonde, which she quipped, “was a whole other situation.”

Julie previously shared how she decided to ditch hair dye entirely while in prison.

The pair — who were pardoned by President Donald Trump in May after spending nearly two-and-a-half years in federal custody following their 2019 indictments on 12 counts of bank and wire fraud, tax evasion and conspiracy — opened up about Julie’s natural hair in a July 23 episode of their podcast.

“When I went to prison, my hair was blonde, but it had a lot of lowlights… before I self-surrendered,” Julie explained. “Then, we actually had a girl that was there at the prison when I got there… she worked in the salon and she was really good and she did highlights for me. When I tell you they looked so good, it looked like I’d been to a salon on the outside.”

When her friend was released, the reality star said she tried using box dye but eventually stopped, leading to what fans saw in photos shortly after her release of her with gray roots and brunette locks.

“You know what? I’m not going [to] color my hair anymore,” Julie recalled thinking. “I’m just going to let it grow.”
