Security fix in iOS 18.3.2 addresses WebKit vulnerabilityBest iPhone accessories

Today Apple released new bug fix and security updates for iPhone, iPad, Mac, and more. Though we still don’t know which specific bugs were addressed by the new software, Apple has now shared that a single security fix was implemented in iOS 18.3.2, macOS 15.3.2, and visionOS 2.3.2.

Security fix in iOS 18.3.2 addresses WebKit vulnerability

In an update to its support page for security releases, Apple has outlined the specific fixes implemented in its latest wave of software updates.

It turns out, as regards security updates at least, there’s only one issue that affected several of Apple’s major platforms.

It involves WebKit security and applies to iOS and iPadOS 18.3.2, macOS 15.3.2, and visionOS 2.3.2 alike.

Here are the details from Apple:

Impact: Maliciously crafted web content may be able to break out of Web Content sandbox. This is a supplementary fix for an attack that was blocked in iOS 17.2. (Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been exploited in an extremely sophisticated attack against specific targeted individuals on versions of iOS before iOS 17.2.)

Description: An out-of-bounds write issue was addressed with improved checks to prevent unauthorized actions.

The WebKit vulnerability, as Apple mentions, has been around for a while as it was originally addressed by the company over a year ago in iOS 17.2.

However, Apple apparently discovered that a supplemental fix was needed.

Though the notes mention that the issue may have been exploited for select individuals, they are very clear that such a breach only took place pre-iOS 17.2. We can assume this means that Apple is currently unaware of any exploits that happened beyond its initial 2023 fix.

Have you discovered any bug fixes or changes in iOS 18.3.2 beyond the security update? Let us know in the comments.
