The most popular baby names list doesn’t change too drastically from year to year, but there are interesting trends over longer periods of time.
Thanks to the Social Security Administration’s baby names database, it’s possible to see parents’ top picks going back to the 1880s. We decided to take a look at the most popular names 50 years ago to see how they compare to the dominant trends today.
While many of 1975′s top choices remain popular today (think classics like James, William, Elizabeth and Michael), you’d be hard pressed to find others on birth certificates these days (shoutout to Tammy, Craig, Chad, Dawn and Wendy).
