“It’s safe to say that danger continues to loom in a big way, putting our core characters in serious jeopardy,” he expressed.
The core group includes Victor (Eric Braeden), Nikki (Melody Thomas Scott), Jack (Peter Bergman), Diane (Susan Walters), Nick (Joshua Morrow), Sharon (Sharon Case), Phyllis (Michelle Stafford), Kyle (Michael Mealor), Billy (Jason Thompson), Sally (Courtney Hope), Michael (Christian LeBlanc), Lauren (Tracey E. Bregman), Devon (Bryton James), Lily (Christel Khalil), Abby (Melissa Ordway), Chance (Conner Floyd) and Audra (Zuleyka Silver).
While Griffith didn’t elaborate on the danger, he did admit that the story surrounding Cane being Aristotle Dumas was inspired by Murder on the Orient Express.
“We knew that we had to reintroduce Cane in a big way as his return would impact so many of the characters. The original inspiration for this storyline was Murder on the Orient Express, but as I began plotting the story, I decided that we needed a locale where the characters would be trapped together, so the idea was born to send everyone to [Aristotle] Dumas’s remote chalet,” Griffith shared.
The Young and the Restless boss revealed that what happens in France will impact everyone back in Genoa City. Cane will return to Genoa City after buying up much of the town, adding another layer to this story that will play out well into the fall.
In the meantime, fans will be kept wondering who killed Damian and if someone else will die for the rest of the summer.
The Young and the Restless airs weekdays on CBS.
