Fans of the long-running soap opera The Young and the Restlesswere stunned on April 30 when cast memberAllison Lanier announced that she would be leaving the series—and soon.
The actress took to social media to deliver the tough news, writing on X, “Hi guys!! This Friday, May 2nd, will be my last episode on Y&R!” Lanier has played Summer Newman since 2022, and last year, she earned a Daytime Emmy nomination for her performance.

She touched on her experience on the soap opera as she went on, saying, “I’ve loved the journey and learned so much but it’s time to grow in a different direction… very grateful for all of the Y&R fans who have supported me <3."

“Allison, oh no! This is sad news, I love you as Summer,” wrote one fan gutted by the sudden news, while others said, “I love you I’m so sad 😭,” and “This is so unfortunate. I loved seeing you on my tv screen. 😩 I hope this isn’t the end of Summer although the next actress will have a lot of work to do.”
Most fans shared encouraging notes for Lanier, such as one who replied, “You were so great! I am wishing you the best on your new journey! I just know it’s gonna be a good one. ❤️.”
“You played Summer Newman the best. You brought growth and class to her character. Will miss you!” wrote someone else, complimenting the actress on her performance.

According to Deadline, there are currently no plans to recast Lanier’s role on The Young and the Restless. No further information about the decision has been shared by the actress or the soap opera.
