The hills and multiplexes will both be alive with “The Sound of Music” this September, as Fathom Entertainment adds three extra days to the film’s 60th Anniversary theatrical rerelease, now running Sep. 12-17.
The rerelease of the iconic Rodgers & Hammerstein musical is the latest in Fathom’s Big Screen Classics series. Participating theaters around the country will screen the film in 4k, restored and remastered with enhanced sound to capture and elevate the spirit of the 1965 classic.

Starring Julie Andrews as the optimistic Maria and Christopher Plummer as the hardened, yet soulful Baron von Trapp, “The Sound of Music” was directed by Robert Wise and distributed by 20th Century Fox. Though it met mixed reviews upon its initial release, the film has since become a bonafide American classic, winning five Academy Awards (including Best Picture and Best Director), launching Andrews’ career and introducing the world to unforgettable musical numbers like “My Favorite Things,” “Climb Ev’ry Mountain,” “Do-Re-Mi” and ““Edelweiss.”
Fathom added the three days to “The Sound of Music’s” rerelease due to fan demand. Tickets are now on sale on the Fathom Entertainment website.
