The 2025 Met Gala has come and gone, and though we’re still obsessing over the inside photos and afterparty snapshots, and hotly debating who was best dressed, we can pretty much all agree that the night was a success (and we’ve got 185+ amazing arrivals photos to prove it).
However, when hundreds of A-listers convene on a massive red carpet and have a theme to interpret, things are bound to go awry. For every well-considered tribute to Josephine Baker, there’s a possible underpants-related tribute to Rosa Parks. And of course, there will be wardrobe mishaps, awkward cases of mistaken identity and badly-executed hair-eography.
Read on for the biggest “oops” moments of the 2025 Met Gala.

Her Dad Is a Beatle!

Not only is Stella McCartney a very famous designer in her own right, but her dad is rock royalty Paul McCartney — so you’d think another musician like Teyana Taylor would have her last name on lock. But while interviewing McCartney and her guest Mary J. Blige, Taylor continued to emphasize the name “Stella McCarthy,” causing the designer to joke that she might as well change it going forward. For her part, co-host Ego Nwodim pointed out, “I just want to say, I said it right.”
Rosa Parks Panties?

Lisa’s Louis Vuitton look was comprised of a jacket and briefs, created from a custom lace that incorporated portraits by the artist Henry Taylor of “figures who have been a part of the artist’s life,” according to a release. One of those figures appeared to some to be civil rights icon Rosa Parks, and the internet had thoughts. At this moment, the brand hasn’t confirmed or denied the speculation, but as one PEOPLE editor said, “We wish they would, so we could stop zooming in on this poor woman’s crotch.”

For the most part, attendees navigated the theme “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” with aplomb, sticking to references without being culturally appropriative. For many, Amelia Gray Hamlin’s pantsless lace Valentino number, complete with lace durag, did not hit that mark. The overall internet reaction to this one appeared to be, “Yikes.”
Another Misidentified Megastar

“Charli! Charli!” photographers screamed at … Lorde, as she ascended the Met Gala steps. (And this is a celeb mix-up with some loaded history behind it!) Still, better than whatever fate befell the paparazzo who shouted “Meryl! Meryl!” at Madonna.
Train Gang

You might have thought it would be Kim Kardashian’s vision-obscuring hat that would be the hazard, but in fact, it was the croc-embossed train of her Chrome Hearts gown, over which a security guard (not pictured) tripped as she left the Mark Hotel. She steadied him and kept on walking.
Hair She Is!
Another red carpet danger you can’t prepare for? A hazardous hair flip! Megan Thee Stallion almost took Angel Reese out with her elaborate (and no doubt, very heavy) ponytail.
Shoe Glue, Boo!

It takes a village — and tricks mere mortals can’t even imagine — to get stars up those Met Gala stairs without incident. But we got a window into one of the stylist secrets when Kylie Jenner posted a video of her painful shoe removal process at the end of the night.
As stylists sprayed her feet with water, she lamented, “[Designer Maximilian Davis] told me to tape my feet into these shoes, and now my feet are stuck in these shoes! How?!” (Don’t worry though: The next Instagram story showed that “they’re okay!”)
