The Hilarious Way the Men of ‘Outlander: Blood of My Blood’ Get Dressed in the Morning (Exclusive) originally appeared on Parade.
Jamie Roy and Jeremy Irvine are getting candid about the hilarious process of getting dressed in their kilts every morning on the set of Outlander: Blood of My Blood.
The duo opened up about the experience while chatting exclusively with Parade ahead of the premiere of the Outlander prequel series, which debuts on STARZ on Friday, Aug. 8. Series stars Hermione Corfield and Harriet Slater also joined Roy, 32, and Irvine, 35, for Parade’s exclusive interview.

“You have to be swaddled in them by the costume team, because that means every morning you have to open your door to your trailer just wearing your boxer shorts,” Irvine explains. “Lie down on the floor like a baby while someone else sort of wraps you up.”
Roy jokingly adds: “It’s like a little burrito in the morning, isn’t it? But it’s great, though, because one: it’s very humbling, so [it] brings you back down to earth. And two, it means you have a great relationship with your costumer, you know? So you get close very quickly.”
While thinking of two grown men being swaddled into their kilts paints a funny picture, Slater, 30, goes on to tell Parade that the authenticity of the garments the cast wore while shooting helped everyone get into character even more.
“The costumes are incredible, and they are heavy. They’re made of wool, a lot of them,” she explains. “And there’s layers and layers, which is great [because you’re] just, like, freezing a lot of the time. And you need the layers. But they’re heavy, especially when it rains, and they just get damp and even heavier. But they really help you get into character. The corset, especially, we were saying [that] it makes you sit and stand and move in a completely different way, which is really helpful.”
A prequel to Outlander, Outlander: Blood of My Blood follows the story of Jamie Fraser’s (Sam Heughan) parents Brian Fraser and Ellen Mackenzie as well as Claire Beauchamp’s (Caitríona Balfe) parents, Henry Beauchamp and Julia Moriston.
Outlander: Blood of My Blood premieres on Friday, Aug. 8, on STARZ.
