Key Points
-
The Four Seasons is an eight-episode Netflix series about middle-aged married couples whose dynamic is disrupted by a divorce in their midst.
-
It comes from a trio of 30 Rock alums: Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield.
-
Steve Carell, Will Forte, Colman Domingo, and Kerri Kenney-Silver star alongside Fey in the comedy.
The Four Seasons is that rare thing — a comedy about middle age.
Created by Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield — all 30 Rock alums — the series riffs on the 1981 movie of the same name. Like Alan Alda’s film, Fey and co.’s Four Seasons follows three married couples on four vacations across a year, exploring how their dynamic changes when one marriage implodes and new (and younger) faces crop up.
The eight-episode Netflix series premiered on May 1, bringing an A-list cast of comedy and drama titans, including Fey, Steve Carell, Will Forte, Colman Domingo, and Kerri Kenney-Silver.
Now, get to know who’s married to whom (and where you’ve seen them before) with Entertainment Weekly‘s Four Seasons cast and character guide.

Actress, writer, producer, and creator Tina Fey is responsible for some of the most enduring comedies of this century, having served as the writer of Mean Girls (2004) and creator and star of 30 Rock (2006–2013).
Her work on 30 Rock, as well as her writing and acting on Saturday Night Live (1997–2006), helped win Fey numerous Primetime Emmys and Golden Globes. In 2010, she was awarded the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor.
Over the last decade, Fey created the acclaimed Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (2015–2020) and Mr. Mayor (2021–2022), and served as an executive producer on Girls5eva (2021–2024). Her recent film credits include Netflix’s Wine Country (2019), Pixar’s Soul (2020), and Kenneth Branagh’s A Haunting in Venice (2023).
In addition to co-creating The Four Seasons, Fey stars as Kate, a middle-aged woman who’s long been married to her college sweetheart, Jack (Forte).
“I think we’re just at ease with each other because we’ve known each other a long time,” Fey told TVLine of her comfort with the actor. “And that’s what people who are married a long time are like. It’s not the beginning of the book. It’s the middle of the book.”
Will Forte as Jack

Will Forte cut his teeth writing and performing on the Late Show With David Letterman (1997–1998) and Saturday Night Live (2002–2010), and has since become a versatile actor on the big and small screen. In 2015, he created and starred on Fox’s The Last Man on Earth (2015–2018), which scored him three Primetime Emmy nominations for writing and acting.
This year, Forte appeared opposite Amy Schumer in Kinda Pregnant, voiced Coach Dan on Pixar’s Win or Lose, and helped rally for the release of Coyote vs. Acme, a Looney Tunes comedy that was nearly shelved by Warner Bros.

Forte stars as Jack, the longtime husband of Fey’s Kate. “Right away, we had to do these scenes where we had to act like we’ve known each other for 20 years and it was so easy,” Forte told TheWrap about the rapport among the cast. “That chemistry was so instant, it was Night 2 and we were having dinner and laughing around with each other. It just felt so real and then that grew into the real version of that friendship.”
Steve Carell as Nick

To some, Steve Carell will forever be Michael Scott, the hapless manager on NBC’s The Office (2005–2013). But Carrell’s career contains multitudes, from his sketch comedy beginnings on The Dana Carvey Show (1996) to his lauded dramatic work in films like Little Miss Sunshine (2006), The Big Short (2015), and Vice (2018).
He’ll be forever remembered for raunchy roles in The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005) and Crazy, Stupid, Love (2011), while his unnerving turn as John du Pont in 2014’s Foxcatcher scored him an Academy Award nomination for Best Actor.
In recent years, Carell has continued voicing Gru in the Despicable Me franchise and starred in the series Space Force (2020–2022) and The Patient (2022).

Carell plays Nick, a member of the core friend group who rattles their dynamic when he leaves his wife and starts bringing a younger woman on their vacations.
But while Nick’s actions threaten to alienate him from his clique, Carell has spoken about how the series ultimately brought him closer to Fey. Despite them having starred in films like Date Night (2010) together in the past, they didn’t really become friends until The Four Seasons.
“So, the two of us, I think we’re very similar in that we don’t want to bug the other — it’s like, ‘I shouldn’t text her, should I call her? No, she’s got kids, and they’re busy,'” Carell said at the series’ premiere in April. “But she was thinking the same thing, and we’re very protective of each other that way, I know she’s got a lot going on. So, yeah, on this one we became buds. It was really fun, she’s the best.”

The rubber-faced Kerri Kenney-Silver is a four-time Emmy nominee for her work on Reno 911! (2003–2009; 2020–2022), which she starred on as Deputy Trudy Wiegel in addition to co-creating.
Over the years, she’s appeared on what seems like every seminal comedy in recent memory, from The State (1993–1995) and Party Down (2010) to It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia (2012), Key & Peele (2013), and What We Do in the Shadows (2023).
Kenney-Silver plays Anne, who struggles with how she fits into the friend group after Carell’s Nick leaves her for a younger woman.
“Honor of a lifetime for me to be part of this group of beautiful geniuses,” the actress wrote on Instagram.
Colman Domingo as Danny

Colman Domingo is a two-time Oscar nominee for Rustin (2023) and Sing Sing (2024), and the winner of a Primetime Emmy for his affecting turn as Ali on HBO’s Euphoria (2019–present). You may also know Domingo from his work on Fear the Walking Dead (2015–2023), Zola (2021), and The Color Purple (2023).
On deck for the actor is Edgar Wright’s buzzy adaptation of Stephen King’s The Running Man, due out later this year, and Steven Spielberg’s still-unnamed sci-fi movie, which is slated for 2026. He’ll also star as patriarch Joseph Jackson in the upcoming biopic about the King of Pop himself, Michael (2025).

Colman Domingo as Danny and Marco Calvani as Claude on ‘The Four Seasons’
Domingo serves as both actor and director on The Four Seasons, having gotten the opportunity to helm the series’ sixth episode.
Speaking with Gold Derby, though, Domingo sounds most pleased he got to flex his funny bone as the fashionable and creative Danny. “Up until recently, people have seen me in a lot of dramas, but I think she must have known that I had a sense of humor,” he said. “I’ve now watched the season and am like, ‘Oh, I am pretty funny in this.’”
Marco Calvani as Claude

Marco Calvani is an award-winning playwright and director, with numerous credits both abroad and in the U.S. He’s also dipped his toe into film — just last year, he wrote and directed High Tide, a romance starring Marisa Tomei and Bill Irwin.
But Calvani is also a talented actor, and was chosen by Domingo to play his husband on the series. “When we were casting, I went to a dinner party at Marco’s house. He was feeding us beautiful Italian food,” Domingo told Gold Derby. “My husband said, ‘What if Marco auditioned?’”
He added, “So my actual husband chose my television husband… We already had a baseline of love and care for each other as friends.”
Erika Henningsen as Ginny

Theater veteran Erika Henningsen has collaborated with Fey on numerous projects, beginning when she was cast in the lead role of Cady for the Mean Girls musical’s original Broadway run. Henningsen also appeared in the Fey-produced Girls5eva (2021–2024), as well as episodes of Blue Bloods (2022) and FBI: International (2024).
Henningsen has the unenviable task of playing Nick’s new girlfriend, Ginny, a millennial in a sea of Gen-Xers.
“I just love that the show is about marital relationships,” she told Theatermania. “I didn’t really realize this, but there’s not a ton of shows about groups of friends who are in their 50s. You have the 20-somethings who moved to New York and are trying to make it, but people do stay friends into their 50s. And now they have children and divorces and judgement of one another’s spouses.”
Julia Lester as Lila

Julia Lester is likely best known for playing Ashlyn Caswell on the Disney+ series High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, though she also scored a Tony nomination for playing Little Red Riding Hood in Broadway’s 2022 revival of Into the Woods. (We also loved her in the following year’s The Secret Garden.)
Lester plays Lila, the daughter of Carell’s Nick and Kenney-Silver’s Anne. “Still can’t believe this is real,” the actress wrote on Instagram, thanking the Four Seasons team for “welcoming me with the biggest open arms.” She added, “I am so honored to be your Lila.”
Toby Huss as Terry

Toby Huss wowed the world as Artie (the Strongest Man in the World) on The Adventures of Pete and Pete before lending his voice to 150 episodes of King of the Hill (1997–2010).
Since then, Huss has proven he’s as adept at drama as he is comedy, showing his vulnerable side in projects like HBO’s Carnivàle (2003–2005) and AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire (2014–2017). Later this year, he’ll appear in Weapons, Zach Cregger’s anticipated follow-up to 2022’s Barbarian.
Huss stars in The Four Seasons as Terry, Anne’s new boyfriend following her split from Nick.
