Jeans are getting baggier and shirts are getting…crop-ier? Whatever you’d call it, it’s clear the 1990s are having a moment. To celebrate the decade, we’ve got an entire digital issue of nostalgic content — led by the woman who perhaps embodies the ’90s the most: Alicia Silverstone.
And further down, we commemorate that Entertainment Weekly is a 1990 baby, making us 35 this year. (Though we could still play the ingénue, right? … Right?!) To pay homage to our early years, senior digital art director Alice Morgan made use of illustrator David Cowles’ iconic caricatures, which will be instantly recognizable to EW readers from that era.
As someone who started subscribing to the magazine at age 12, it’s incredibly surreal to see myself caricatured by Cowles here. Though I’m not a full-on Monet — erm, I mean Picasso — I think the illustration does capture my essence.
Must be the posture.
