And just like that, it’s the first Monday in May. The 2025 Met Gala has arrived, which means it’s again time to embrace your fashion-critic alter ego as we witness some of the most elaborate red carpet looks of the year. This time around, the theme is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” celebrating 12 key characteristics of dandy style, but the gala’s dress code is the broader “Tailored for You,” all but guaranteeing we’re in for some impeccable suiting moments.

Tonight’s co-chairs are Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams (plus LeBron James as an honorary chair), meaning we already have several tailoring heavy-hitters confirmed to dazzle us—but who else might we see? Personally, I’m hoping for a Dapper Dan appearance, as well as some powerful tailoring moments from the women in attendance (Zendaya, I hope you’re listening). Read on for all the must-see suiting from the 2025 Met Gala, from innovative structures to iconic archival pulls and everything in between.

Rihanna

Rihanna arrived very fashionably late to the carpet, but it was worth the wait. In addition to showing off her baby bump for the first time, she wore an impeccable corseted custom Marc Jacobs skirt suit complete with a major hat and polka dot cravat.

Zendaya

Getty Images

Getty Images

Delivering exactly the kind of tailored magic we’d all hoped for, Zendaya arrived at the 2025 Met Gala in a perfectly fitted all-white number (custom Louis Vuitton!) comprising bell-bottom trousers, a jacket with an hourglass silhouette, a waistcoat, a necktie, and a floppy hat (all paired with Jimmy Choo shoes and a few touches of sparkling jewelry). Dandy, indeed.

Doechii

Getty Images

Getty Images

2025 is truly Doechii’s year, and we’re all lucky to be bearing witness. The Grammy-winning musician arrived to the Met in a multi-patterned gray and cream shorts suit from Louis Vuitton complete with a silky oxblood bow tie and Mary Janes with socks, embodying the spirit of dandyism in her own way.

Lupita Nyong’o

Getty Images

Getty Images

Every part of Lupita Nyong’o’s pastel seafoam tailored Chanel creation was breathtaking, from the boater hat to the corsage. But perhaps the biggest highlight was the chiffon cape, which gracefully blew in the wind as the accomplished actress headed out to the Met.

Coco Jones

Taking tailoring into show-stopping blue carpet territory, musician Coco Jones stunned in an embroidered all-white Manish Malhotra ensemble featuring a jacket with a dramatic train, trousers, simple Jimmy Choo pumps, and a luxe, oversized pendant necklace.

Teyana Taylor

Getty Images

Getty Images

The Met Gala carpet this year may be blue, but Teyana Taylor brought some red drama in this pinstriped custom Ruth E. Carter suit, cape, and waistcoat combo. Silver chains, floral appliqués, and an oxblood feathered hat made for an unforgettable statement.

Doja Cat

Getty Images

Getty Images

Doja Cat is always one to go all-out for a Met theme (remember her Choupette look from 2023?), and the star kept up this energy for the “Tailored for You” theme in a black and silver pinstriped custom Marc Jacobs bodysuit featuring power shoulders and leopard accents. Sculpted hair, tights, platform shoes, and silver chain jewelry made for an unforgettable combination.

Chappell Roan

Getty Images

Getty Images

This year was Chappell Roan’s Met Gala debut, and the sapphic pop superstar absolutely made a splash. She melded queer and dandy elements in a sparkly patchwork pink custom Paul Tazewell suit with dramatic flared trousers, continuing her streak of show-stopping looks that honor those who came before her.

Colman Domingo and Lewis Hamilton

Getty Images

Getty Images

Both serving as co-chairs this year, Colman Domingo and Lewis Hamilton were bound to bring some peak tailoring moments—and they delivered in two contrasting ways. Domingo went maximalist in a blue pleated Valentino cape with a silver adorned overlay and Boucheron jewelry, while Hamilton opted for an impeccably tailored white custom Wales Bonner suit with beading details, paired with a cool cap and Briony Raymond jewelry.

Colman Domingo

Getty Images

In a pleasant surprise for fashion fans everywhere, Domingo revealed a second part to his Valentino look underneath the cape. The actor looked incredibly dapper in a black and white plaid jacket, polka-dotted silk tie and corsage, pinstriped shirt, and gray pleated slacks.

Janelle Monáe

Getty Images

Getty Images

A theme surrounding creative suiting always felt, well, tailor-made for Janelle Monáe. The music icon was an avant-garde main character in this dramatic structured custom Thom Browne x Paul Tazewell coat featuring an image of a suit and briefcase, paired with a hat, monocle, and Marie Lichtenberg and Selim Mouzannar jewelry and later flung off to reveal a literal color-blocked suit.

Lorde

Getty Images

Getty Images

Lorde has been teasing gender broadening and masc elements when it comes to her upcoming album Virgin, so it’s no wonder that she arrived at the 2025 Met Gala in a perfectly taped gray monochromatic Thom Browne look that fused a crop top and mermaid maxi with a suit jacket draped over one shoulder. The tailored moment—which she paired with Briony. Raymond and Dena Kemp jewelry—only further built anticipation for the music she’ll be releasing this June.

Pharrell Williams

Getty Images

Getty Images

Pharrell Williams—also a co-chair tonight—capitalized on the power of a well-tailored suit. The music powerhouse and Louis Vuitton men’s creative director took the Met steps in a white pinstriped jacket, form-fitting flared trousers one could argue are an elevated take on bootcut jeans, and his signature sunglasses.

A$AP Rocky

Getty Images

Getty Images

The last (but not least!) of the Met Gala co-chairs to arrive, A$AP Rocky looked cool and put-together in a multi-piece black custom Awge suit paired with dark, diamond-encrusted Ray-Ban wayfarers and a Briony Raymond umbrella—a practical choice for what’s been a rainy day in New York.

Regina King

Getty Images

Getty Images

Regina King’s 2025 Met Gala look was nothing like a traditional suit, and that made it all the more exciting. The award-winning actress’s tailored navy Who Decides War ensemble featured an asymmetrical structured neckline, colorful embroidery, and gold beading, creating a true sartorial work of art. A few strategic luxe jewelry pieces from Brilliant Earth completed the look.

Dapper Dan

Getty Images

Getty Images

Living legend Dapper Dan looked cool and confident in a patterned black-and-white suit jacket paired with Oxfords and classic black trousers, which he topped off with some fun metal-rimmed shades and a brimmed hat. The ensemble was from his own atelier—we’d expect nothing less.

Sabrina Carpenter

Getty Images

Getty Images

Pop star of the moment Sabrina Carpenter is always serving up the cheekiest ensembles, so it’s no wonder that the Short n’ Sweet artist decided to opt for a bold bodysuit base at the Met. Her chocolate brown custom Louis Vuitton ensemble also featured a well-tailored jacket with a long train, platform pumps, and strategic touches of Chopard sparkle (note the anklet).

Simone Biles

Getty Images

Getty Images

Gymnastics GOAT Simone Biles proved to also be a Met Gala standout with her mini dress take on tailoring. The Harbison Studio look featured a plethora of appliqués, a white contrast collar, and a voluminous train, all of which felt gold medal-worthy.

Barry Keoghan

Getty Images

Getty Images

Barry Keoghan recently secured the role of Ringo Starr as part of the upcoming series of Beatles biopics. The actor leaned into this energy for his 2025 Met Gala look, opting for a military-inspired black Valentino suit with embroidered cuffs and collar plus a statement-making red belt.

Cardi B

Getty Images

Getty Images

Green was not a common color on this year’s Met Gala carpet, so Cardi B stood out in her Burberry suit. The ensemble featured a plunging ruffled neckline, velvet texture, and sparkly jewelry for a powerful impact.

Charli XCX

Getty Images

Getty Images

Fresh off a four-night Barclays Center run to conclude her Brat tour, Charli XCX brought party girl energy to the world of suiting in a custom Ann Demeulemeester ensemble comprising a cropped jacket, sheer feather-trim skirt, and thigh-high boots. Bucherer jewelry added sparkle that would surely shine under her concerts’ signature strobe lights.

Jennie

Getty Images

Getty Images

In one of the more gown-like takes on suiting, K-pop star Jennie looked sharp in a Chanel ensemble comprising a dramatic tailored jacket with train, cigarette pants, pumps, pearls, and a black-and-white hat.

Bad Bunny

Getty Images

Getty Images

Bad Bunny’s chocolate brown custom Prada suit fit the dandy theme to a T, from the playful, nestlike hat to the butter yellow tie, adorned leather gloves, and oversized two-tone bowling bag.

Jodie Turner-Smith

Getty Images

Getty Images

Talk about a showstopper. Jodie Turner-Smith never fails to be a red carpet highlight, and her 2025 Met Gala ensemble—a dramatic oxblood Burberry trench paired with a coordinating, avant-garde raffia top hat—was a dandy moment to remember. A touch of jewelry from Marli was the cherry on top.

Sarah Snook

Getty Images

Getty Images

Should-be Succession CEO Sarah Snook (team Shiv forever) took a night off from her Tony-nominated run in Broadway’s The Picture of Dorian Gray to grace the Met steps with her best take on suiting—and we’re so glad she did. The anOnlyChild look, which comprised a well-tailored jacket, train with red accents, silky trousers, and a plethora of ornate brooches, was remarkably on-theme for the gala and her one-woman show alike.

Jeremy O. Harris

Getty Images

Getty Images

Tony-nominated playwright Jeremy O. Harris always brings it on the red carpet, and his appearance at the 2025 Met Gala was no exception. He embodied peak dandyism in a dramatic custom Balmain tux featuring a high-low jacket, fitted white pants, and an elegantly tied scarf.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Getty Images

Getty Images

Offering a voluminous, colorful take on dandy suiting, Byrdie cover star alum Tracee Ellis Ross arrived on the blue carpet in a chic red and pink custom Marc Jacobs number featuring a cummerbund with oversized bow, billowing blouse and pants, cropped jacket, and asymmetrical hat.

Hunter Schafer

Getty Images

Getty Images

Actress Hunter Schafer paid tribute to the most classic elements of dandyism in this impeccably tailored custom Prada suit comprising a black jacket and trousers plus a white cinched-waist top, gloves, and cap.

Myha’la Herrold and Raul Lopez

Getty Images

Getty Images

It’s always thrilling to see what New York’s buzziest designers do for the Met Gala, and Raul Lopez of Luar had a true standout moment in the ultra-structured looks he created for himself and Myha’la Herrold. While in classic shades of gray and brown, the monochromatic ensembles create interest with their avant-garde suiting silhouettes. Herrold’s high-fashion Timberland boots made for an ultra-cool finishing touch.

Lauryn Hill

Getty Images

Getty Images

Needed more convincing that butter yellow is the color of spring? Lauryn Hill arrived in this structural custom Cheney Chan suit in the hue, elevating the look further by pairing it with a bold blue handbag plus jewelry by Emefa Cole.

Demi Moore

Getty Images

Getty Images

While most of the suiting looks at the Met Gala were, well, suits, Demi Moore took an unexpected, incredibly creative approach. Her black and white sparkly pinstriped Thom Browne gown took on the silhouette of a necktie, delighting fashion fans everywhere.

Whoopi Goldberg

Getty Images

Getty Images

Melding this year’s suiting theme with a gown silhouette, Whoopi Goldberg stood out in a black-and-white textured hourglass Thom Browne design, which she paired with coordinating accessories including a clutch, an ever-trendy brooch, and a top hat with netting.

Tessa Thompson

Getty Images

Getty Images

In a true example of impeccable tailoring, Tessa Thompson arrived in a custom cream Prabal Gurung coat that cut a dramatic hourglass silhouette, made all the more elevated with ruffled sleeves, platform boots, an asymmetrical sparkly top hat, and jewelry by Effy and Saidian Vintage.

Angela Bassett

Getty Images

Getty Images

Always a standout in both talent and fashion, Angela Bassett had a dapper moment in this blue velvet caped custom Burberry suit, complete with a statement-making hat and cane plus Messika jewelry.

Anne Hathaway

Getty Images

Getty Images

Anne Hathaway is always balancing high-fashion energy with a ready-to-party spirit, so her 2025 Met Gala look (by Carolina Herrera) felt right on theme. The actress tapped into suiting elements via an effortlessly tailored blouse and a well-fitting maxi skirt featuring sharp stripes, topping it all off with a high ponytail and luxurious Bvlgari jewelry.

Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz

Getty Images

Getty Images

In yet another standout pinstripe moment for the 2025 Met Gala count, Alicia Keys and Swizz Beatz opted for coordinating red Moncler suiting, complete with a voluminous coat and beaded headpiece on Keys’ part and a cherry-colored du rag, Jimmy Choo shoes, Ara Vartanian x Swizz Beatz jewelry, and dark Ray-Bans for Beatz.

Quinta Brunson

Getty Images

Getty Images

Fresh off her SNL hosting duties, Quinta Brunson joined the pinstriped party in this stunning custom Sergio Hudson black-and-white gown and suit jacket, which she elevated further with a red rose corsage and statement earrings.

Ashley Graham

Getty Images

Getty Images

Striking a true eveningwear balance, Ashley Graham’s gray pinstriped Boss number combined structured shoulders, a corseted waist, and a statement-making skirt for a gown-suit hybrid to remember.

Joey King

Getty Images

Getty Images

Highlighting that more is more when it comes to suiting at this year’s Met Gala, Joey King arrived in a show-stopping emerald custom Miu Miu number covered in stunning beading and mirroring. She completed the look with a checkerboard shirt, a multicolored tie, and just the right amount of Gabriel & Co. jewelry to accentuate her ensemble’s sparkle.

Kerry Washington

Getty Images

Getty Images

If you’ve been waiting for an unforgettable take on the skirt suit at this year’s Met Gala, allow Kerry Washington to be your guide. The actress arrived in an all-cream Simkhai look featuring a structured blazer with plunge neckline, sheer skirt and gloves, minimalist pumps, a wide-brimmed hat, and Chopard jewelry.

Madonna

Getty Images

Getty Images

While she’s often one to go for a more divisive look, Madonna went classic yet iconic for the “Tailored for You” theme, opting for a full cream-colored suit by Tom Ford and Roger Vivier shoes.

Shaboozey

Getty Images

Getty Images

Country star Shaboozey opted for mostly black with his sharp yet artful Robert Wun suit, but turquoise beading added an intriguing pop for an unforgettable Met moment.

Aimee Lou Wood

Getty Images

Getty Images

Undeniably a The White Lotus fan-favorite, Aimee Lou Wood continued her crowd-pleasing streak in a suiting-inspired Ahluwalia look comprising a cropped jacket, draped train, flower-covered Mary Janes, tailored shirt, tie, and silver jewelry.

Ava DuVernay

Getty Images

Getty Images

Director Ava DuVernay’s custom Prada gown riffed off suiting with its pinstriped ball skirt and billowing blouse-inspired top, complete with an asymmetrical hat for extra dramatic impact.

Lisa

Getty Images

Getty Images

K-pop icon (and Wood’s The White Lotus co-star) Lisa offered a performance-ready take on tailoring, arriving in a Louis Vuitton look comprising a beaded jacket, bodysuit, patterned tights, structured handbag, strands of pearls, and pendant necklace.

Mindy Kaling

Getty Images

Getty Images

In another gown-adjacent take on suiting, Mindy Kaling stunned in a navy jacket and maxi skirt set (custom Harbison Studio) with red and white accents that elevated the lapels, cummerbund, and maximalist buttons.

Yara Shahidi

Getty Images

Getty Images

Sometimes, the more accessible Met Gala looks truly shine, and that’s exactly what happened with Yara Shahidi’s Fear of God suiting moment. Her classic oversized black ensemble paired beautifully with a rust-colored blouse featuring a pussy bow, and she topped off the look with a major coat, David Webb jewelry, and Christian Louboutin shoes.

Laura Harrier

Getty Images

Getty Images

If you’ve missed the magic Zac Posen is currently making at Gap Studio, allow this impeccably tailored custom look on Laura Harrier to be your introduction. The dramatic silhouette balanced a fitted waist with billowing sleeves and pants, made all the more showstopping with Gianvito Rossi shoes and Buccellati jewelry.

Suki Waterhouse

Getty Images

Getty Images

Suki Waterhouse has some of the most effortless cool-girl energy out there, so it was fitting that she arrived in a suiting-inspired take on the LBD. The musician’s sleeveless, backless custom Michael Kors look tapped into the theme in a deconstructed yet still well-tailored manner, with standout details including the collar, belt, and dramatic leg slit. Several jewelry pieces from Jacob & Co. completed the ensemble.

Danielle Deadwyler

Getty Images

Getty Images

Acclaimed actress Danielle Deadwyler melded multiple elements of tailoring excellence in her Met Gala look. Her Who Decides War ensemble comprised a cream-colored, corseted mini dress with a draped extension, layered over a well-tailored white shirt with sharp shoulders and a dramatic collar.

Pusha T

Getty Images

Getty Images

Who said a suit can’t be as sparkly as a gown on the red carpet? Pusha T stood out in a crystal-covered burgundy Louis Vuitton suit, which he paired with Tiffany & Co. jewelry for an extra dose of luxe.

Emma Chamberlain

Getty Images

Getty Images

Emma Chamberlain returned to her hosting duties, also wearing pinstripes (we’re sensing a theme). She opted for a backless custom Courrèges gown paired with sheer opera gloves, some office siren glasses, and Stuart Weitzman shoes.

Cole Escola

Getty Images

Getty Images

Broadway darling Cole Escola—whose play Oh, Mary! is up for several Tonys—was always bound to serve a fun, colorful look at the met gala. Their warm-toned floral suit (custom Christopher John Rogers, of course) paired beautifully with their black pumps and dramatic lashes for an artsy, party-ready ensemble.

Ugbad Abdi

Getty Images

Getty Images

Model Ugbad Abdi brought maximalist drama to the met in a black and silver pinstriped custom Michael Kors suit with a patterned, fur trim coat, statement cummerbund, and black bow tie and bowler hat.

Ruth E. Carter

Getty Images

Getty Images

Costume designer Ruth E. Carter blended various eveningwear elements—a silver suit jacket, a classic white button-down, a sparkly rope belt and matching handbag, and a black maxi skirt with a leg slit—for a fun and fresh take on suiting.

Zuri Hall

Getty Images

Getty Images

E! host Zuri Hall kicked off the carpet with a bang, opting for an optical illusion Bishme Cromartie gown with a classic pinstripe pattern.

Jeremy Pope

Getty Images

Getty Images

Jeremy Pope gave us major summer suiting inspiration in his 2025 Met Gala look, which comprised a sleeveless beige dress form-inspired top from Maison Margiela’s fall 1997 collection (what a creative take on the tailoring theme!), black tailored slacks, and sharp Oxfords.

Willy Chavarria

Getty Images

Getty Images

As one of New York’s most celebrated menswear designers, it’s no surprise that Willy Chavarria nailed the assignment. His oversized pastel pink suit—featuring dramatic lapels and paired with an adorned green tie, a chain accent, a red flower, aviators, and a black shirt and hat—was a true showstopper.

Ego Nwodim

Getty Images

Getty Images

A highlight of tonight’s specific theme is that we’re guaranteed lots of structure play that pushes the boundaries of suiting. Ego Nwodim delivered in this dramatic peplum paired with well-tailored trousers, elevating the custom Christopher John Rogers look even further with red pointed-toe pumps and a long, sparkly Boucheron necklace that one could argue provides a creative twist on the necktie.

Christian Latchman

Getty Images

Getty Images

One of the best parts of Black dandyism is how it refutes the unimaginative suiting we often see on carpet after carpet. Model Christian Latchman served a gala-worthy tailored look in this white 5000 suit complete with a pleated, gown-like train, all topped off with a millennial pink corsage by Helena Simon.

Jordan Roth

Getty Images

Getty Images

A true all-timer when it comes to Met Gala looks that transcend gender boundaries, Jordan Roth made a statement in an all-black custom LaQuan Smith ensemble comprising dramatically flared trousers, a cropped jacket, sparkly beading, an east-west clutch, a sheer top hat, and Boucheron jewelry.

Kara Young

Getty Images

Getty Images

Broadway actress Kara Young won a Tony Award last year (and is nominated again in 2025), and she proved herself to also be acclaimed in the fashion department in this voluminous chocolate brown anOnlyChild suit. From the dramatic waist to the cropped sleeves to statement accessories including leather opera gloves, a tie as a scarf, and a structured bucket hat, her entire ensemble was a modern love letter to dandyism.
