Teyana Taylor is owning the 2025 Met Gala.
For fashion’s biggest night on May 5, Taylor, 34, wore a show-stopping look, which included a tailor-made pinstripe suit and extravagant padded cape with some eye-catching detailing.
Taylor paired up with Oscar-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter, whom she previously worked with on the 2021 film Coming 2 America, to bring the outfit to life, according to Vogue. Taylor wore a red vest inside the three-piece pinstripe red suit and accessorized the look with silver chains across the vest and down her right pant leg.
Completing the look was a large, padded red cape with the words “Harlem rose” stitched in at the train. The cape also had several other details, including a large red flower on the right side and silver flower lapel pins on the left. She completed the look with red leather gloves, a bright red cane and a red fedora hat with a matching feather hanging from the back.
“I’m already not a big dress girl,” she told Vogue, noting that she tends to gravitate towards a tailored look for all events: “I’m in suits even without it being a suit theme.”
On the red carpet, Carter, who has won two Oscars for costume design for her work on the films Black Panther and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, was spotted helping to fan out the actress’s large cape.
“As we embarked on our journey in this country, we were stripped of everything,” Carter reflected, per the publication. “A lot of times the only thing you had was to show it on your body.”

Last October, Vogue announced Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, Pharrell Williams and Anna Wintour would co-chair this year’s Met Gala, alongside LeBron James as honorary chair. The event, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, is a fundraiser for The Costume Institute and spotlights the museum’s spring 2025 exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style, which is the theme for the gala.
Curator in Charge Andrew Bolton shared that the exhibit, which is inspired by guest curator Monica L. Miller’s 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity, explores “the Black dandy as both a concept and an identity signifier.”
The exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to the present through an exploration of the concept of dandyism,” according to a post on the museum’s Instagram.
The Met Gala’s dress code, which is slightly different from the theme, is “Tailored for You.” It is a nod to the exhibition’s focus on menswear and suiting. The gala also has a star-studded host committee: Simone Biles and her husband, Jonathan Owens, as well as Doechii, Regina King, Spike Lee, Angel Reese and Usher.

Taylor, who is also hosting the 2025 Met Gala Livestream for Vogue this year alongside Ego Nwodim and La La Anthony, is no stranger to fashion’s biggest night.
For 2024, the “Rose in Harlem” singer arrived in a strapless, deep red gown covered in rose petals at her bust and hips. The bodice was a corset design, which minimized her waist while layers draped at her hips.
She also sported a daring thigh-high slit above her leg.

Taylor, known for her ever-changing hair, which ranges from big curls to pixie cuts, opted for a voluminous blonde look that flowed into a super long, braided ponytail.
“This Sleeping Beauty Reawakened from her dreams in a beautiful Rose garden … only to realize that she wasn’t dreaming at all … this moment was her Life. And she was the Rose,” she captioned a May 7, 2024, Instagram recap.
“Wild hair.. wild world.. wild thorns but this rose is dreaming wide awake 🌹Time Evolves You…. #TEY,” the post continued as she added a series of red carpet images from the night.

Taylor’s look was so head-turning that her then-estranged husband Iman Shumpert made a public post about her flawless execution.
“Yeah you ate…but I ain’t tellin you that s—,” Shumpert, 34, wrote as he seemingly complimented the A Thousand and One actress in a post on X on May 6 after Taylor arrived on the Met Gala carpet.

In addition to the 2024 Met Gala, the “Bare with Me” singer had eventful moments at the 2023 Met Gala.
Before even making it inside the event, Taylor hilariously required assistance as she walked up the stairs while wearing a skin-tight Thom Browne design that paid homage to the honoree of the night, Karl Lagerfeld.
Her look featured a black and white tweed design with hip-baring cutouts, built-in gloves, a train, thin black veil and aviator sunglasses for an elevated cool factor.
Once inside, she skipped the official Met Gala menu, instead choosing Chik-fil-A chicken tenders and waffle fries — which apparently caused her fellow superstars to take notice.
“@teyanataylor is embarrassing me. She brought @chicfilausa to the #MetGala. I want her away from me…#HARLEM,” Pusha T joked in his Instagram Stories.
In another video, he showed Taylor eating her take-out meal, while Usher laughed in the background. “@usher tried to stop her…🤦🏿♂️,” he quipped.
