KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — Federal funding cuts have resulted in Knox County Schools (KCS) losing 27.5 positions from its district office for the upcoming school year.
A KCS spokesperson told 6 News that the jobs were federally funded and dependent on KCS receiving those funds to continue into the school year. Instead, the recent federal funding cuts eliminated the positions and now the district is working to minimize the impact the change will have on students.

The impacted positions include:
13.5 regional content facilitators for math, English Learning Arts (ELA), science, and social studies
11 student support staff
Three Welcome Center family liaisons
The school system’s human resources team is working with the staff members who were impacted to place them in open positions that align with their certifications.

“This decision was made to ensure we had a viable plan of action in place to preserve mission-critical services and supports for students and families over course of next school year,” the KCS spokesperson said. “While these reductions are challenging, we are currently realigning work within the district office to minimize the impact on students, protect the classroom, and maintain focus on our four priorities.”
