Tate McRae Under Fire For Morgan Wallen Collaboration

Canadian singer Tate McRae is under fire online after she promoted an upcoming collaboration with country star Morgan Wallen.

After teasing their pairing on her Instagram, Tate McRae listeners began blasting the 21-year-old for working with Wallen, who, in the past, has used racist language and was arrested for throwing a chair off a six-story building.

In April 2025, McRae shared a cryptic post to her Instagram Stories that got everyone talking. The picture was of an orange football jersey featuring “T8” and the initials “MW.”

Shortly after, fans began flooding social media with theories that the “Sports Car” singer was hinting at a collaboration with Wallen.

The next day, Wallen confirmed everyone’s suspicions when he posted the track list for his upcoming album, “I’m The Problem,” and McRae’s name was next to a track titled “What I Want.”

However, people aren’t as thrilled about the move as the rising popstar may have thought they would be.

For those unfamiliar with Wallen, the 31-year-old is a popular country singer with tons of commercial success, including three chart-toppers on the Billboard Hot 100.

In 2021, he made headlines after a video of him using the N-word went viral. However, his problematic behavior didn’t end there. In 2024, he was arrested for throwing a chair off a six-story bar in Nashville.

The singer was charged with three felony counts of reckless endangerment and one misdemeanor count of disorderly conduct.

Although his actions were shamed by many, Wallen has continued to dominate in the country music industry. His last two projects, “Dangerous: The Double Album” and “One Thing at a Time,” both hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Following Wallen’s first incident, he issued an apology, explaining that the public witnessed him in a drunken state.

“The video you saw was me on hour 72 of 72 of a bender, and that’s not something I’m proud of either,” he said, as reported by TODAY. “Obviously the natural thing to do is to apologize further and just continue to apologize, but, because you got caught, but that’s not what I wanted to do.”

He continued, “I let so many people down who mean a lot to me and who have given so much to me, and it’s just not fair.”

Wallen went on to say that the response to his words motivated him to “dig deeper” into how to address some of society’s issues.

“One thing I’ve learned already is, I’m specifically sorry for is that it matters. My words matter. A word can truly hurt a person, and at my core, that’s not what I’m OK with,” he said.

It was later reported that the singer was supposed to meet with members of the Nashville chapter’s NAACP board.

However, news eventually broke that the “Last Night” singer left the chapter’s president, Sheryl Guinn, high and dry.

McRae supporters have been sharing their thoughts about her collaboration with Wallen on X, TikTok, and Instagram.

“Tate McRae collabing with Morgan Wallen,” one user wrote. “I’m actually so disappointed in her [right now].”

“Sorry, but Tate McRae making a song with Morgan Wallen might be the stupidest sh-t she has ever done,” someone else posted. “I’m so disappointed [because] I love her a lot.”

The backlash comes a couple of months after McRae’s third album, “So Close To What,” reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The project featured the snappy titles “Dear God,” “Miss Possessive,” and “It’s Ok, I’m Ok.”

In a previous interview, she opened up about her music, touring, and what it takes to put on an entertaining show.

“Whenever I’m out of breath on stage, I’m always like, well, f-ck Beyoncé can do it — I don’t have an excuse!” she said. “She’s figured out a way to run on the treadmill and sing at the same time. You watch back to Coachella, and she was dancing and singing that whole time and figured out a way to sound phenomenal and nail it.”
