Tara Lipinski is hoping to grow her family.
The professional ice skater and Olympian, 42, spoke with PEOPLE about her partnership with Dutch, an online pet care service, and shared whether she and husband Todd Kapostasy have thought about adding another little one into their life. The couple already shares 19-month-old daughter Georgie.
“We are definitely wanting to bring a sibling to Georgie, so we are in the process of starting our second journey,” Lipinski tells PEOPLE. “But that’s a long process and there’s always what ifs with that, but fingers crossed, but maybe that can happen for us.”

While she and her husband are waiting to hear if they will be parents again, Lipinski has been guiding her daughter Georgie through some important milestones, like trying ice skating for the first time.
“She was like 9 months old, maybe, when we took her on the ice for the first time,” says Lipinski. “Unfortunately, we were part of the Palisades fire, so the last few months we have not been skating, but I plan to get her back out there again.”
“She likes when I skate with her. She probably was taking a few steps, but now she could probably stand on her skates alone and all of that.”
Lipinski has been open in the past about her long road to becoming a mother and her struggle with infertility. The professional athlete in total had four D&Cs, a surgical procedure often performed after a miscarriage during which the cervix is dilated so that abnormal tissue can be removed from the uterine lining, per Johns Hopkins Medicine, six failed IVF transfers and eight egg retrievals.
Her doctors eventually also diagnosed her with endometriosis, for which she had to have two major surgeries. She went on to welcome her daughter Georgie in October 2023 via surrogate.
This past October, Lipinski did a Q&A on her Instagram Stories and was asked by a follower if she plans to use her remaining embryos. Lipinski replied that she’s not sure how many kids she wants.
“We have 7 embryos on ice,” Lipinski shared. “Most mornings I wake up and want ALL of them and by 6pm I reconsider.”
“I am thinking 3 (maybe 4 – @toddkap 🫣) I am so grateful for our Gigi and will be so grateful for another one. If my journey taught me anything I know nothing is guaranteed so I still get nervous.”
