Taco Bell Is ‘Not Playing Around’ With Its Newest Test Menu Items originally appeared on Parade.
Taco Bell’s latest menu update is a big one, and it may sound cheesy, but some fans are sizzlin’ with envy over what they say is “the best” part of the announcement.
On Thursday, Taco Bell casually unwrapped a menu refresh with multiple parts. The first is that it would be bringing back its Cheesy Street Chalupas for a limited time due to an “overwhelming demand” from fans, the second confirmed its new Mountain Dew exclusive soda flavor is now available, and the third revealed an ultra-exclusive new test menu set to debut in select markets that has fans declaring the company as “relentless this year” and “not playing around.”
How Does Taco Bell’s Test Menu Work?
Before Taco Bell launches a new menu item, it sometimes organizes a smaller rollout to menus in select markets to gauge customer reactions to new recipes or updates to its food or drink menu.

Taco Bell doesn’t always test the items at the same set of stores, either, which makes it a fun surprise for fans not expecting to be part of the “test group.”
What New Items Are Being Tested at Taco Bell This August?
In its latest test kitchen announcement, Taco Bell confirmed that two new–but very familiar–entrées would be available for a limited time at participating restaurants: Fajitas.
The two new “craveable” offers see “boldly seasoned” fajita peppers and onions, tossed in a brand-new fajita sauce, and prepared one of two ways.
Fajita Rolled Quesadilla: Filled with your choice of either grilled, marinated steak or slow-roasted chicken, the Fajita Rolled Quesadilla contains boldly seasoned fajita peppers and onions, a new fajita sauce and three-cheese blend before being melted, rolled, and grilled, priced at $4.99.
Fajita Street Chalupas: The Fajita Street Chalupas consist of a set of two street-sized Cheesy Street Chalupa shells filled with your choice of either grilled, marinated steak or slow-roasted chicken and topped with a new fajita sauce, boldly seasoned fajita peppers and onions and cilantro onion blend. Each order comes with two street chalupas, all for $5.99.

The cult-favorite fast food joint also confirmed it will continue testing its new Luxe Value Menu at select Indianapolis, Indiana, and Dayton, Ohio, locations.
Where is Taco Bell Testing These New Items?
According to the Aug. 14 announcement, Taco Bell is testing the new items at select restaurants in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Will Taco Bell’s Fajita Test Menu Go Nationwide?
Nothing is guaranteed, but it’s certainly a possibility that one day in the not-too-distant future, fans all over the country could see the Fajita Rolled Quesadilla or the Fajita Street Chalupas on menus at the Taco Bell nearest them. But for now, it’s only testing in Milwaukee.
Past test menu items to earn a wider release include Taco Bell’s chicken nuggets, Crispy Chicken Tacos, and Crispy Chicken Burritos.
